Quick help needed - exhaust too loud - MOT fail
 

Hi All,

Just some quick advice really ... MOT failed becasue the exhaust was too loud .. it has the afterburner vortex and a decat (WRX 03)

I was under the impression that the afterburner was UK legal as it was purchased in the UK ... is there anything i can do to get out of this and fire at the MOT'er ... gotta pick it up at 5

I may be wrong but I didn't think there was any defined legal noise limit for exhausts and hence how can it fail for being too loud unless it is damaged, holed or fitted incorrectly?

Likewise, I didn't realise there was a legal noise limit for an MOT. Amazed it got through the emissions test though with a decat.

Just found out thats its at the discression of the MOT'er ... so he must be a tit

It still has the other 2 cats on so emissions is fine

Erm not 100% but levels they stated in the past were 83DB @ 4000 rpm which the police use, but to fail the MOT Tester is able to fail the exhaust if the noise emitted is “clearly in excess" of what it should be..cant remember the exact wording.

PMSL just take it somewhere else.:rolleyes:

Had mine MOT'd couple weeks back, they just put it as an advisory and said that they had to do that to safeguard themselves. Certainly never failed it though.

My classic passed with an unbunged Blitz Nur Spec and passed the emissions test too. Mr. WRX if you are in the NW I can give you the name of the MOT station.

I know of a guy in Belfast who got warned numerous times by the police to change his exhaust as it was too loud. He didn't do it so they served an Asbo on him lol!!:eek:

Mine passed its 1st MOT at the Subaru Dealers with a Nur Spec FFS !:brickwall

Just booked it in somewhere else @ 9.30am... where the bloke sold me the exhaust :D

But said i wasnt happy at the garage! MOT bloke wasnt there but they were saying if it is too loud and they had an inspection they would be done but i was thinkin what if it isnt :wonder: ..... as JAP iMPORT said they should have just put it as a advisory like his.

The MOT'er is meant to phoning tomorrow .. will be funny if it passes at the other garage before he calls lol.

Yer might wanna swap yer exhaust back, coz if you take it elsewhere their gonna find out its failed as soon as they enter your cars details on to their all seeing, all knowing COMPUTOR...

So it just has a catback and they failed it?

mine passed at Just MOT's a few weeks back with a Ganador 1 peice titanium system. Its not mega loud, but certanely is not quiet!

MOT'er sounds like he is too anal about certain things!

absolute nads mine has passed at 112decibels at 3000rpm for the last 4years the mot guy loves it recons it sounds sweet lmao however i did read somewhere that the 80something decibel instructive applies to cars after 2001

lol i no someone that put an hole in a coke can and used bodyfiller to jam it in the exhaust :D. soon as it was out of the mot station on there forecourt he got it out with a screwdriver you could see all the staff looking at him lol.

Just an update everyone ....

Took my car in at 9.30am and it passed fine :cool: ... why didnt i take it there in the 1st place :wonder:.... there was a brand new GTR, Sierra cosworths, full dogged up STI's ........... awesome place

The MOT bloke from the other garage hasnt rang me yet ..... shall i ring him and tell him its passed and he is a complete a'hole?

Leave it mate. He has your reg no. and could cause trouble if you call him any names. Don't want this nice garage you have just found to start getting hassle from DoT.

He just rung me .... and tbh he sounded quite fair and said sorry he couldnt pass it but he has had trouble there before .... and he didnt wonna lose a customer .... so im cool with that :cool:
