phil739 07 September 2009 06:50 PM

nice, well very nice guess your well pleased

so what you running to get that ?

scooby546 07 September 2009 06:58 PM

very nice time :) as above, would be interested to know whats under that stealth RA exterior... any quarter mile times for that car?

pnbond007 07 September 2009 06:58 PM

Not mine Buddy........i'm sure he'll pop by soon... :-)

rooferman 07 September 2009 07:55 PM

Thanks for getting the pics pndbond007....nothing like photographic evidence.:)

I was quite shocked when they told me 3.59....thought it would possibly do low 4,s....second run bogged down a bit and came in at 4.09

The car has standard non ported headers and standard sti ra gearbox.

2.0 built by Zen running Autronics with antilag and a Gt30 hybrid.
Stripped interior with cobra buckets and Safety devices bolt in cage.
(Thanks to Paul and the team at Zen)

The R888,s helped i think .... and the twin plate clutch..

The car was dynoed about a year ago and produced 369hp ... i was hoping for around 400bhp at the time, but the car delivers the power very nicely imo....

Quickest quarter mile is 11.9 @113mph I,m sure i can shave a tiny bit more off

I had a vid sent too me earlier, its not great but will try and post it if i can.

rooferman 07 September 2009 08:01 PM

Not a great clip.....and doesnt look that quick to me....but here it is anyway.

YouTube - subaru wrx sti type ra 0-60 sprint at Trax silverstone 3.59 secs 07122009006

LUCKO 07 September 2009 08:05 PM

mit 07 September 2009 08:38 PM

Thats a great time! Does your RA gearing mean you have to change to third to get to 60?

beef-on-the-bone 07 September 2009 08:49 PM

bloody good!! :)

Yes.... 3 gear changes to 60...and 5 for the quarter mile...lol.

The gearbox is the next major modification on the car.......dont really know which way to go....PPG or jap spec 6 speed with dccd..:wonder:

I might just start collecting 5 speed ra boxes....:lol1:

scatty 07 September 2009 09:15 PM

saw this do the said time...very quick it looked too......:thumb:

not long after came a battered old ford fiesta with what we found out afterwards a cossie lump and all the trimmings......did it in 2.98 seconds.......

anyone else see it????

rooferman 07 September 2009 09:28 PM

I saw the car.....thought it was a mk3 escort.......

Quickest of the day was 2.61 !!!!

Cockney Wideboy 07 September 2009 09:28 PM

My attempt was ermmm....a bit slower......

Your the same as me then, 3 and 5 gear changes respectively, (my time wouldn't be near yours mind!) That makes your time even more impressive!
I wonder if you'd see a quicker time with longer gears?
The six speed is heavier, the ppg expensive!
I was debating this on my RA, if(and when!) the box gives out. Do you have the 3.9 diffs? Makes the six speed a lot easier, and the 5 speed clutch fits too which is a bonus.

Yes have 3.9 diffs and the front is Helical...standard on version 5 limited ra.

How much heavier is the 6 speed ...??? i had heard 20kg..??

stevebt 07 September 2009 10:12 PM

I added a jap 6 speed gearbox to my old car and I hated it as I prefered the RA gearing :)

I thought it was 30kg, so 25kg sounds good!:lol1:
I do love the RA gearing, it's much better on the road than on a 1/4 mile, as it's always up in the power band.

Yes i love the ra box in mine.......i need a bullet proof PPG if such a thing exists for not a small fortune.....

Are the ratios on the PPG gearset based on a uk box???

Shaun 07 September 2009 10:43 PM

Great times! :)

The 6sp is fine on the road, especially the JDM 6sp which has a shorter 5th & 6th. If your car feels slow with a 6sp, then you need more torque. ;) :D

Que the need for tubular manifolds...........along with some of pauls mapping.:notworthy

rooferman 07 September 2009 10:50 PM

I have experienced a 6 speed box in an impreza........but it seemed slow to change gear...or to get in gear should i say.....compared to the box in mine which i can throw in so to speak.

Could just take getting used to i suppose.

172sport 08 September 2009 06:58 AM

The best I could do is a 5.3, the change to third to hit 60 never helped. LOL

Running about 270bhp

Great time well done.

+Doc+ 08 September 2009 08:00 AM

Very impressive time, even more when you consider what people have had to spend to shave what equates to bugger all off the time.

dunx 08 September 2009 10:30 AM

Was the Escort a purple caged item ?

I know a "lad" with one, it makes a Scooby look slow in fifth, and that's @ 400 bhp.

dunx

P.S. A quickshift helps the six speed "feel" nicer, but doesn't help the ratios....

Great Time. Did you have launch control aswell?

Re: Gearbox.

There have been too many breakages on PPG cars with reasonable power to warrant the cost and then the potential addtional repair costs.

Go six speed they are pretty much bullet proof unless you run big, big power and your gear changes are full throttle, clutchless brutal ones.
