STI TYPE RA WRC 555 V-LIMITED
 

I have for sale my loved sti 5 type ra 555 wrc limited.Selling due to it hardley getting used anymore. There are only 1000 built, it comes with the limited edition plaque inside the car(number 476). The RA is very close to the rally car as it comes with quick ratio gears, quick steering rack for better response, very light panels and thinner glass to reduce weight. The limited comes with climate control(ac) electric windows and dccd.


The car has 12 months mot and 6 months tax.78,000 miles. The car has a fully rebuilt engine about 20,000 miles ago. will have to check reciepts for exact mileage. The engine will cope with up to 450 bhp. The engine oil has always been changed every 3000 miles and always run on shell v-power plus octane booster. The car has been mapped with ecutek by Bob Rawl. I have loads and loads of receipts for this car.
It has been set up for low lag high boost for very fast road use.

Engine built 20K miles ago to the following spec
2.0 litre Closed Deck Block with oil squirters, decked and honed to correct clearances for high boost/power applications, block converted to phase 2 thrust bearing location.
Oil pump stripped, checked and shimmed for 7BAR oil pressure
8.3:1 compression ratio
STi9 cross drilled and nitrided crank
STi8 forged pistons and rings
STi9 Rods with rod bolts
STi9 steel head gaskets
ACL race main and big end bearings
STi5 heads freshly decked and valve seats cut, correct STi5 cams and valve springs (all individually pressure checked) etc, clearances shimmed correctly
16 x new Supertech stainless valves, new valve stem seals
TD05 Big 16G FE turbo running at 1.8BAR peak, 1.6BAR at top end
EcuTek Mapped by Bob Rawle showing 340BHP, 347Lbft on the Zen Performance RR last month, shows aprox 10BHP/Lbft more on the road using Delta Dash
AP racing organic clutch, feels like stock with no judder unlike some alternatives
Exedy billet flywheel
Ported and wrapped stock headers with slip jointed magnex up-pipe (small bore version ideal for spool and 450BHP power levels)
Scoobymania 3" stainless downpipe and resonator centre with bespoke quieter than usual 3" system backbox
PFR7B plugs
High flow panel filter
Group N fully baffled sump
Oil breather system with return to sump feed
it's currently setup for daily use and is a very quick cross-country drive with lots of lag free torque.

yes mate. never use it to its potential anymore. so i wil let someone else get the use out of it. when i bought it it needed some tidying up. got all that sorted now. my hat goes of to john for the amazing engine setup. what a car!

i changed the indicators for smoked ones this weekend. so need to get some new photos up with them on. here is one from traxx car show.

It was an option to have a higher 5th (same as the normal STi) on the Limited cars. The 5th gear on this car is the normal RA 5th (19.4MPH/1000rpm), not as the advert reads (unless it's been changed after i sold it).

It doesn't have the bespoke quiet rear silencer i had made anymore, its more of the normal 3" noisy backbox yoof tend to prefer. ;)

It was a great car, i haven't seen it for a while but i expected it would be looked after properly.

The proper name for the car is Subaru Impreza WRX STi 5 Type RA 555 WRC Limited :D

hi john how are you?. thought this had the longer 5th gear in it mate. it revs alot lower than my mates my96 ra who can only do 130 mph.?

yes the new exhaust is loud. gives loads of nice popping and banging on over run.

Early RA's had very low gearing, STi4 and STi5 RA's have a far more practical gearing, but still lower than a normal STi4/5.

The factory option you could choose on this car was to have the normal STi5 RA 1st to 4th, then instead of the RA 5th, you could have the 5th gear from the normal none RA STi5. That option is not good if you want a good cross country drive, the jump between 4th and 5th is too big so you are constantly dropping off boost. My first STi5 RA Ltd had this option, i hated it so much i had the box stripped and changed it to the normal RA 5th.

This car has the following gearing, which is the normal STi5 RA setup

1st 3.083 = 5.23MPH/1000rpm
2nd 2.062 = 7.81MPH/1000rpm
3rd 1.545 = 10.43MPH/1000rpm
4th 1.151 = 14.00MPH/1000rpm
5th 0.825 = 19.53MPH/1000rpm top speed approx 170MPH

The optional 5th some STi5 RA Ltd's have is
0.738 = 21.83MPH/1000rpm
They gave this option to pander to the executive market that wanted a better motorway cruiser, but as a performance car setup i found it less than ideal.

People confuse RA gearing all the time, because there has been 3 versions of ratios and everyone seems to think they are all like the first ones, which puts some buyers off what would be a great car for them.

The very first RA's were very low geared, far too low to be a practical proposition for most people. They didn't rev as high either, which limits the top speed significantly.

They had the following gearing

1st 5.00MPH/1000rpm
2nd 7.41MPH/1000rpm
3rd 9.87MPH/1000rpm
4th 12.76MPH/1000rpm
5th 17.78MPH/1000rpm top speed approx 125MPH


the next version of RA (MY95) had this gearing
5.27MPH/1000rpm
7.81MPH/1000rpm
10.41MPH/1000rpm
13.45MPH/1000rpm
18.74MPH/1000rpm top speed approx 130MPH

So no, yours doesn't have the optional longer 5th, and that is a good thing IMHO. :D

new price of £7,995

is it just me or is that a hell of a lot of money for a sti ra?? no offence, but seems to me to be over priced. good luck with the sale.

Nice car. How much lighter are the panels (bonnet aside) and how much thinner is the glass than a standard WRX/STi?

yes, good spec, good engine spec, still lot of money for a classic these days, just mo.

the car as standard would be worth 6k. so asking 2k more for all the extras seems very fair. this is a collectors car in many peoples eyes

Apart from bonnet and boot there is no light weight panels or glass, That`s just myth :lol1:

Slightly off topic, but John do you have the gearing for the V3 STi type RA handy as well?

i think this car weighs around 1270 kilos in total.

It's the same as a version 4/5/6 in terms of ratio, but has an open front diff.

Really? didnt know mine had gearing for 170 :eek:, think the most ive ever had it up too was around 120 (speedo) at knockhill

Is the open front diff better than the V4,5,6 then and what are the differences (sorry im on a hell bent quest for knowelege just now must be getting old or something :) )

The open diff you have is not as good as the later cars, they have a helical LSD up front on the RA model.
