I am moving to Luzern in a couple of months and was wondering about the cost of buying & running a Scooby in Switzerland.

Can anyone give me details of prices, insurance etc etc etc.

Looking to get another STi7 or a WRX Wagon.

You are in luck mate as Luzern is lovely and Scoobs are cheap. :D

How does £16k for a new WRK or £21.5k for an STi7 (local taxes paid) grab you.

And SUL is only 55p per litre!

If you are only here for a short term and plan to return then you might even be able to buy a car VAT free (saving a further 7.6%)

Insurance is cheap too but servicing can be more than in the UK.

If you want to do mods then you have to be careful as some will not be type-approved for Switzerland and a roadside emmission check could get you into trouble if you are cat-less.

Just save up for your speeding fines though as the national limit is 80kmph (Ok so it's 120kmph on the motorways). There is no points system but you can fined 20/25% of monthly net revenue and then there are prison terms above that!

Ps. They are called the "Farmer's Ferrari" out here.

I spotted a nice MY01 outside the Subaru dealer in St.Moritz, so they are out there.

Stephen,

Thanks for the details.

I had heard that speeding fines were bad. The Gatso cameras are a little too well disguised I gather as well. I was over there last weekend and was horrified when a camera was pointed out to me....I thought they were grit bins or something like that as they are pebble dashed concrete boxes aren't they.

Do you know if anyone arranges any meets & drives over the mountain roads or are there too many coppers around ?

I have just returned today from Zurich and Basel. Indeed there are some scoobynetters in Switzerland and I have about 3 customers over there with one in Zurich.

Just got back from Geneve. My mate lives there with his Forester. Loads of scoobys out there. Motorshow was  to.

The fixed cameras are indeed mounted low down in boxes that look a bit like telphone/cableTV exchanges. not oall of them are grey though. There is one painted like Swiss chees on the way into Geneva and I have seen anouther paited like a Fresian cow.

The problem however are the mobile cameras that are often mounted inside a parked car or van.

Radar detectors are outlawed too.

I once saw a convoy of about 5 or six cars in Valais but I never found out who organised it.

There are quite a few Swiss based Scoobyneters out here though...

I am currently Scoobyless but after sitting in the STi7 at the Geneva Motorshow last week, I am sorely tempted.

A company called Digitpower were also showing this 'tuned' version which alledgedly has 318PS...

Judging by how many I saw in and around Verbier last week, there are many! The dealer in Verbier had what looked like a stickered up STi too. :)

Saw a few on the way in and out of Martigny, too (on the trips we made down the valley to pick-up/drop-off people).

Sorry I can't help on the prices/running costs, but just chimed in to say to are likely to not be alone ;)
