2000 UK Classic to 300 ish
I'm sure this as been asked many time before but I'm a little confused on the best turbo option.
I'm going with the following: Panel Filter (do I need induction as heard to leave this well alone) New Turbo Two of the three de-cat Remap I understand that standard gearbox will handle it, clutch maybe needs upgrading and the standard injectors are good to 350 ish? Just exploring the turbo, can anyone explain my options: VF34 - New = expensive VF35 - doesnt seem to be popular TD05 - Does it even fit VF23 - Decent price second hand ahead of a refurb Any others to be considered? |
You can acheive 300 on your standard TD04 but at a push. You'd need to change injectors, filter, decat exhaust possibly headers and a good remap
|
What? Headers? Injectors? lol
Back to reality.... For a start you need to sort the exhaust..decat downpipe and decat centre section and a nice BB.Then i'd go for a panel filter. Then sort the turbo..i'm going for a VF from the P1.Your TD04 will be on it's limits at around 290-300 and i don't know about you but i wouldn't want to have a turbo maxxing it out on full boost. Some people change the fuel pump as i will be doing but lately i've heard of guys running for years with 300 bhp on a standard unit.Personally for somthing like £60 it's worth doing. I'm going for a Simtec ECU so i can do away with the troublesome MAF sensor so i could go for an induction kit but you should see 300 on an ECUTEK remap by the likes of Jolly Green monster..Andrew Carr..Andy Forrest...Bob Rawle. Then there's brakes..clutch. |

Bob Rawle mapped it and was getting 297 bhp + loads of torque all on 97 ron fuel .So on vpower maybe 300 |
Vf28 on the P1 and later STI's
I've got one fitted on my old uk turbo and this run 330BHP, This has run standard injectors and fuel pump for over 3 years now, has done a couple of track days and 35.000 miles with no problems, apart from the gearbox that ate 3rd within a couple of weeks of the upgrades |

If your car is a year 2000 (or did you mean 2000 turbo?) then you won't need to change your injectors as you have 440cc's in there.
Cheapest turbo solution is probably 2nd hand td05 16g and front entry cover from AFP |
Im running a 3" decatted exhaust, Walbro, FMIC, Apexi induction kit and VF23 and managed 330/321 using an ECUTEK map.
|
I have a vf 35 turbo fitted to my classic with supporting mods and remap. It makes for a very quick road car for day to day use with minimal lag.
|
seems the options are many. Ill keep my eye on the marketplace and see what comes up
PS Yes, its a MY2000 UK Turbo 2000. |
Think i'm going to have to get more info off people with different turbo's when i'm ready to buy one...So confusing!
The differences seem to be roller bearing units which spool up 500 revs quicker than non bearing units.VF35 might be up there now after what dolomite has said. |
VF28 here and over 300BHP
|
Had a 35 on mine which produced 313/300. At this level it's probably the most cost effective turbo as they were fitted to later STi's so there are plenty about from people who have gone for big numbers on a new turbo :thumb:
