What model RA really?

Been hunting for reasonably priced local RA, stumbled across this one, now the guy swears its hpi clear, and it is what advertised as!! I checked out applied model no- GC8 a47d, on RA owners website, and shows as a non-sti RA, just WRX RA with i think 240bhp. Also i questioned him over face lift bonnet and pillar aerial, as he says its a MY93 model:Suspiciou

Can all this be right, or am i just being over cautious?

Subaru : Immaculate STI RA in WHITE

BLACK V5 06 September 2009 10:46 AM

Sti ra first came out in 95 and will have a roof vent. Model code is right for a 93 wrx ra. Strange thing is they say it has Driver controlled center diff (DCCD) which a normal ra wouldn`t have.

Puff The Magic Wagon! 06 September 2009 10:52 AM

Maybe

WRX RA STi has the adjustable centre diff but check on the RA website when this became available because I think it was after 93.

It's a modded non-standard RA whatever it is.

Which I guess means to check it works lol - dash will have disco lights and an STi logo. These can be retro-fitted as I have one sitting in my garage waiting to go on one day...

PS

See if there is a receipt for a STi badge ;)

WRX RA IMPORT M8
As you know they did not have air con, electric windows, electric mirrors etc, but no diff control but they could be requested as optional extras when you buy the car new. Hence the pillar aerial.
check for the ridges on the bell housing where the starter fits this is a good guide to the original engine or box.
If you realy want the car go and have a look and check everything and i mean everything even down to the scuff marks on the bolts all around the car.
I can tell what has been done to a car in about an hour.
It has probably had a light front ender from racing in Japan which is not recorded in this country. Hence the new bonnet
Easy to look for just check the front where the rad sits they never get all the dints out.

TYPE R BRAD 06 September 2009 12:59 PM

Just spoke to the guy again, and he now admits(once i explained) that there is no DCCD:confused:, says a mate wrote out ad + that is what he said he bought it as, in fairness he seems fairly genuine over phone, just TOTALLY ignorant to Imprezas!

If i go and view it and it is as a WRX RA then whats it worth??

scoobs 4 life 06 September 2009 01:14 PM

Seems around the right price to me m8 but only you can decide that when you see it.
Just make sure you check everything and dont be in a rush or look to keen if it is ok 4 u.
you can tell if it has been looked after. Make sure it has the ic water spray bottle under the bonnet next to the alarm, can`t see it in the pictures. also where the electric mirror control should be on the dash is a blanking plate. These are hard to get hold of so should be a good indication of originalaty,+ 2 pot front brakes 1 pot rear all discs vented if not been changed.
If you are happy with it take it for a test drive and give it some clogg they are f***in great.
Had myWRX RA for about 5 months now and am in the process of doin it up for sprints and dragging at the pod.

mit 06 September 2009 01:45 PM

Face lift front ends don't always mean it's been smashed, they look better imo, hence why i changed mine.
The sti badge on the boot has been added.
It has an RA engine, 5th injector.
Check for cross hatching under the alternator on the block, this confirms the cdb.
Check what ecu it has, if it's still standard, with the induction kit and fmic, chances are it won't be running very well, and engine damage could already be set in, if it's been detting ect.

Mus 06 September 2009 02:11 PM

shouldnt all sti have red inlet manifold??

Midlife...... 06 September 2009 02:13 PM

Early STi's had a silver manifold :)

The above car to me is a WRX RA .............with mods LOL

4K for a my 93 car. Are you mad. You can get version 5 sti for that now.

scoobs 4 life 06 September 2009 02:20 PM

We all have odd tastes m8. wouldnt do for us all to be the same.
But my RA is a play thing not the only scooby and i would not part with it for all the tea in china.

jayallen 06 September 2009 03:17 PM

Deffo an RA................An RA should be as it left the factory IMO, no splitter, side skirts, rear spats, small rear spoiler(if one at all) and Black door handles and mirrors.

TYPE R BRAD 06 September 2009 07:43 PM

Also looking at another genuine sti ra on a 95' with no dccd! God how many variants! Its a version 2, is that right it has NO dccd?:thumb:

Ive seen 93 cars in better condition than 96/97 models with less miles, it's a bit special being an early Type RA so worth a bit more than a normal WRX with them being a bit rare now, 3-4k is about right depending on mods.

Midlife...... 06 September 2009 07:57 PM

1995 Sti RA is based on the Version II WRX STi..... no red manifold and no DCCD.

The 95 Sti RA does have DCCD, '95 was the first year of the Sti RA's production. No red manifold but DCCD, Roofvent, CDB, IC spray etc

Midlife...... 06 September 2009 08:19 PM

sorry about that, I was working from memory of Brian long's book on the Impreza :(

Am I getting confused with ABS ?? did the early Ra's DCCD not work with ABS and you could only have one or the other and not both !!
