DO all v2 RA's have closed deck blocks?

i was just looking at this engine on ebay and the seller claims that it is a fully race prepared engine out of a impreza 1996 RA. I asked the seller whether it was a closed deck block and he replied

"Hi there. No, it's not a closed deck though that's a common misconception. Not all Ra's have closed deck. They were only on the very early cars "

I thought that all RA's of year 1996 had a cdb?? i was just woundering if anybody can shed some light on this topic

cheers

If there's c.10mm spaced square 'cross-hatch' castings around the oil filter housing, then I'm certain it indicates a CDB. Get the seller to send you a pic if he can...
