You'd need:
Turbo
Injectors
Fuel Pump
Full de-catted exhaust
Tubular Headers
Uprated spark plugs
Front Mount Intercooler
Remap

Forged Internals
Gearbox
Clutch

Then you'd be safe at that power on a WRX :)

addison 29 August 2009 06:16 PM

Level 4 390-410 bhp

Full Decat turbo back 3” bore exhaust system
Tubular exhaust headers and flow matched uppipe
Walbro 255 l/hr uprated fuel pump
EcuTek custom ECU calibration.
Twin boost set up for high/low power switchable in-car
STI TMIC from 01-07 STI including undertray
AFP 321H custom turbocharger with fitting kit
Twin port 650cc Injectors
Custom cold air induction system

Level 5 420-450 bhp

Full Decat turbo back 3” bore exhaust system
Tubular exhaust headers and flow matched uppipe
Walbro 255 l/hr uprated fuel pump
Twin port 650cc Injectors
EcuTek custom ECU calibration.
Twin boost set up for high/low power switchable in-car
Fuel Lab turbo specification fuel pressure regulator with fitting kit & gauge
STI TMIC from 01-07 STI including undertray or optional FMIC
AFP 321T custom turbocharger with fitting kit
Custom cold air induction system
AVCR boost controller
NGK racing 8 spark plugs

Note We do not recommended level 4-5 on standard internals, clutch or gearbox. As a mimium we recommend forged pistons
and steel rods, steel head gaskets, uprated clutch. We also recommend either a PPG gear kit or 6 speed gearbox conversion ( from later STI)

PLEASE NOTE

We have included the tuning section us a guide to what we consider to be the most cost effective steps during tuning. This has been compiled with the benefit of experiencing hundreds of upgrades. There are other parts/turbos that can be substituted but the listed parts we have found to give the most consistant results over many installations.

Cheapest option close to 400bhp
Uprated fuel pump
Full decat exhaust
Remap
Td05 20g
Should be good for around 380-390bhp:norty:

No need for injectors as 440cc as standard I think you should be able to push 380bhp on these.

Tubular Headers- no point not going to get you any bigger gains over the standard ones, maybe porting them would be a better option.

Would stick with the standard WRX TMIC should be o.k for 400bhp!!!!This is from my own experience with what I did when i had a 05 wrx which made 387bhp with full decat. td05 20g, remap and fuel pump!!

Or just sell it buy a classic sti type r and it would be quicker then a 400bhp newage even in standard form.:luxhello:

not 100% true:D

a type r with a full decat would though:Suspiciou:D

power to weight and the shorter gears make a type r a very quick car and upto 100mph my money is on the older cheaper classic!!!:luvlove:

who told you that (were you awake at the time)

kris_rogers 29 August 2009 07:22 PM

ok so without arguing say a de cat new intercooler new turbo new fuel pump and a remap maybe induction kitthis would be ok yeah

al02uk 29 August 2009 07:31 PM

mate your wrx won't last long running 400bhp on standard internals, I'd say 350bhp at an absolute push using them.

375bhp on mine and the engine packed up pretty much instantly

lomas the great 29 August 2009 07:32 PM

can any one prove that 440s will go as far as 380-390 bhp cause i wont waste my money on 550s if so.

chrisdicko 29 August 2009 07:36 PM

Yeah Kris, if your wanting 400+ you will need new clutch, gearbox, and forged internals....

you will need a remap talk to your mapper they will guide you

F1 CJE UK 29 August 2009 08:59 PM

my car is going in to rcm for a 500bhp package and cost will be around 30K its not cheap getting a wrx over 350 and keeping all the parts working.

Forged Internals
Gearbox
Clutch

will set you back around 15K if your play people to do it for you.

lomas the great 29 August 2009 10:58 PM

im having my99 remapped by jgm in two weeks and he said 330 bhp was all 440s could cope with.
has any 1 run more on them though.

Hiya mate. welcome to the Lions Den:)

dunx 30 August 2009 12:17 AM

My std. pink STI injectors (505cc ?) are only managing 400 bhp at 3.9 bar static....

First, there is no way the std wrx TMIC could effectively cope with the charge temps..!

Second, the 05 wrx, being a 2.0l has 380cc (blue/grey) injectors. I think you're getting confused with the my06 2.5 hawkeye wrx..! ;) 380's will be pushed (ie>100%) at much over 300bhp..!

How quick is a decatted std classic RA 60-100..? As a guide, my lowly 350ish wrx does it in 6.5..;)

Finally, engine longevity apart, IMHO the biggest factor when going for over 350 in a wrx is the 5sp gear ratios, namely 2nd gear..! Unless you have a mega spool turbo that can produce the goods below 3k rpm you'll be left with your pants down coming off a medium speed roundabout at around 20-30 mph..!:o It'll be horrible to drive too..!

Go for a sensible setup using the std TD04 turbo, decat and remap etc, but also sort the brakes and suspension out. Then you will have a very handy all round real world fast road car that's a hoot to drive..:luvlove:

It's not always about headline figure, how many times has this been said..?!

Kris,
the wrx heads will always have you 20-30hp down on the sti heads running same spec, just allow for it mate and you'll avoid some dissapointments
Trev

kris_rogers 30 August 2009 03:13 PM

so new intercooler good for 615 hp new turbo good for 440hp 255 fuel pump induction kit 600cc injectors and a remap and wanna run the turbo at constant 1.2 bar so what power and performance do you recone out of that and most of all is that ok to run also maybe new clutch and bearings just to save upset

kris_rogers 30 August 2009 03:13 PM

o and decat

dunx 30 August 2009 03:42 PM

You must use the smallest turbo than can deliver the goods, it's no use spec'ing a 600 bhp turbo because next year you may build an engine to suit, it will be rubbish on the road.

A VF35 from an STI with all those bits will make 330 bhp, IMHO.

Your engine may be safe to 350 bhp, but it will "eat" the gearbox.

Sorry !

john banks 30 August 2009 05:14 PM

IMHO, sell it and buy an Evo 8 or 9 FQ320 . The clutch, injectors, gearbox, internals, turbo, intercooler are all good to go for 400 BHP +-. The suspension, diffs, brakes, steering are in a different league right out the box.

You just need a decat pipe and remap to be pretty near to 400 BHP, if you want to be certain you can do full 3" exhaust and fuel pump and use an Evo 9 rather than 8.

Agree with that, the easiest, cheapest way to get 400+ is buy an evo!

For the OP, dont think about 400bhp the amount of money it will cost to get a wrx to that level safely would be insane! As you have a newage though you could handle close to it on both your engine and gearbox compared to the weaker classics!

Sti 8 intercooler
TD05 20g from Harvey Smith
650 injectors
Turbo back exhaust
Ported headers and up-pipe again from Harvey Smith (will help with spool as you have non avcs heads and increse torque)
Fuel Pump
3 port boost solenoid
Panel filter
and a remap using the best quality fuel you can access everytime.

At least 350bhp

kris_rogers 30 August 2009 05:55 PM

what about getting a wr1 and uprating that

john banks 30 August 2009 06:01 PM

The engine is still half baked with a poor turbo/manifold combination that neither spools well or makes good power.

They have 420cc as stock for info, 550cc for the 2.5.

yep i know 500 bhp with a rcm lump means lots of power with a turn key and no worrys, it does cost tho :freak3:

dont try and get to much power or save up for when it goes bang
