Am I Alone in thinking Tesco Super is CRAP!?

I've used it a few times, and every single time the engine has run like a bag of spanners ..... added to that, the mpg is terrible!

I give it a wide steer now ...

My car preferes tesco 99 to optimax.
Never had any problems.

chrisdicko 22 August 2009 10:28 PM

Only used it twice, but doesn't seem as good to me as V-Power. First time I used it, I got a lot more activity on my Knock analyser as well. Not bad, but more than normal!

Never used it in my Impreza as only ran on Vpower, but did run my old 350z on it a few times and it hated it. Sounded really rough at idle.

yeah mine doesn't seem to like tesco super very much either, and the mpg is crap. I know people dont rate it on here, but mine seems to run best on bp ultimate, and car does 28 mpg on it !

SunnySideUp 22 August 2009 11:43 PM

Sainsburys Super is my personal favourite.

funny you should mention bp ultimate i had to put some in my frs the other day as they were no other garages around i dont ever put bp in but i had to and i got more miles from ultimate than i ever do on tesco 99 or v power :wonder:

My 2.5 deffo prefers VP, it runs on Tescos, but not as sweetly as on VP

Ultimate is dreadful stuff. It's ok on non mapped cars but if you map a car for V Power and then use Ultimate you'll get nothing but det. Fill up with tesco 99 on a car mapped for V power and there is little or no difference. I personally like Tesco 99 although MPG isn't has good as V Power but I've put that down to the extra bio fuel content in T99.

I'd like to do a back to back test i.e map my car for Vpower and dyno it and then map for T99 and dyno it. Just to see where the differences really were.

n_12ead 23 August 2009 12:19 AM

well i was told ultimate was awful stuff, but the nearest v power garage to me is like 40 miles away, tesco 99 is 20 miles away, and bp ultimate is 12 miles away. ive used tesco 99 since i bought the car, but that 1 tank of ultimate run far better than the tesco ever has !

car isn't mapped or modded at all, engine wise, but will be soon so il bear that in mind, cheers nick

Same here, V Power seems to be a lot better in my opinion

Mr-Confused 23 August 2009 02:29 AM

I do two tanks of Tesco 99ron a week commuting... Tis cheaper than v-power so I will be sticking with the Tesco stuff, also I love their pay at pump facility.

richthowells 23 August 2009 09:08 AM

Am i right in thinking tesco do 2 super's? A 97 and 99 ron? I always read about 99 ron on here but all the tesco's i've beeb to only sell 97 ron super.

dazdavies 23 August 2009 09:21 AM

Can't comment on the 97 but the 99 stuff is very good. Certainly pisses all over Ultimate.

dj219957 23 August 2009 11:36 AM

every car is different and has its own taste for fuel dependant on its map.
my car has the best mpg on tesco super but the best performace on v power.

kingchrissyp 23 August 2009 12:02 PM

I was using Tesco 99 but then about a month ago i had to use Sainsburys premium stuff as Tesco ran out and i ve been getting better MPG ever since and it s cheaper and i ve noticed no difference in performance.

jonny_693 23 August 2009 12:09 PM

Youll be lucky to find the stuff at the moment everywhere I've been to is sold out, WTF is going on?
