New member, looking for type R
 

Just thought I would say hello to everyone as I am new to this forum.

Will be on the lookout for an STI type R in a couple weeks when I get home from work, have up to around 8k from my last car.:)

Are there any pointers when looking at these cars?

Well for 8k you should be falling into version 5/6 territory, these are the 1999/2000 model year cars so end of the classic line.
What to look out for? well MAF sensors are a weak spot, cheap though at around 100 quid, they dont like aftermarket induction kits, the vibration kills them :( then your normal use and abuse, engines are strong but they can suffer from dead mafs and bad fuel (people put the wrong stuff in as these were mapped in japan for 100 ron fuel and 95 just blows them up :cry: )
Check DCCD's run freely and there is no undue knocking from the diff on open.

Top choice pal, in good order even standard they are extremely lively and sure footed, some minor mods are amazing. Service history is a must especially if an engine build has took place, V-ltd are a wee bit more rare and stand out a bit more.

My old one which i hunted through loads to find is back up for sale down in South Wales. TurboDean has it up for grabs i think for £7200 in General for sale.

Offshore working until 12th september so will have to wait until then. Will be looking to spend the top end of my budget as i want a decent one.
