Would This Do The Job?
I have a Black Home Hub from BT to replace my White Home Hub (better apparently).
The White Home Hub connects to the PC via a USB .... perfect. However, the Black Home Hub doesn't have this option .... it only offers an Ethernet Connection - which I find oddly backward? Anyway, my PC does not have an Ethernet socket .... just USB's, plenty of them! So, my options are:- 1. An Ethernet Card in a spare PCI Socket on the MotherBoard 2. A USB Wi-Fi Device or 3. A USB to Ethernet Adaptor BT Technical recommend Option 1 - the card .... so, do you agree? And if so, is this what I need? Dlink PCI DFE-530TX Network Card 10/100mb Retail- microdirect.co.uk What would a more expensive card offer me and would it be worth it - or will this cheap one do the job? Thanks |
is yours the latest bt home hub(the curvy one)???
i also use this and found out that the usb port on the rear is just for connecting usb drives..bit wierd also strange that your m/b does not have a ethernet port on it.What motherboard do you have sir????? |
heh Ethernet isn't a backward step it's far superior, speed wise than USB for internet connections.
Your mobo must be ancient not to have a NIC onboard. But yes just buy a cheapo PCI NIC card for your PC, £10max. |
Pedro,
You're not really an Engineer are you? You've been kidding us all this time haven't you? Unable to solve a simple computer problem :nono: If you are an Engineer then you're a disgrace to the profession  |
USB for internetz is a bad idea!

I'd worry that if the mobo doesn't have an ethernet port it may be that is so old that the USB ports are all version 1.1, hence may not work with newer devices (or be too slow). If it's version 2 USB, then I'd suggest USB to Wireless, that way you don't have to worry about future moves of the PC or hub.
Also that's an add on (USB wireless) so OK for Peter, I don't think he will go anywhere near the insides of the PC based on his dislike for Scoob mods, PC mods must fill him with dread and opening the box should only be understaken by a highly skilled PC engineer not the likes of the general public :-) |
as above
you need to upgrade http://www.classiccmp.org/dunfield/c64/h/complete.jpg is no longer cutting edge and will not support the BT black home hub |
