Range Rover Vogue
Anyone had any experience in comparing the 3.0Td6 against the 4.4 V8 (281bhp, not the 305bhp)
I didn't realise the TD only had 174bhp for a 2.5 tonne bus! Decent enough torque figure of 390Nm so I assume once rolling its a pretty decent drive albeit not going to win any traffic light Grand Prix? :D The V8 with 281bhp is also slightly down on what I'd have guessed, but how do the two compare in real life conditions, i.e. living with how they drive, and drink! I'm guessing the realistic mpg for the V8 is low teens? Whats the real life average for the diesel? Is 20mpg optimistic? |
i had the sport v6 td and used to get 27mpg and iv got a heavy right foot
had a few problems but id still have another one had an older v8 got about 15mpg but a lovley sound :D |
4.4 all the way. My folks have said model and averages 17 and a bit mpg.

MPG about 17/18 for the 4.4, did manage 22 return to Austria
Ran one for 2 years, pleanty of problems, front diff, suspension, electrics, heater etc Now have a 4.2 supercharged MY08, this is what the RR should have always been, much better suspension, ventilation and gearbox. The S/C is so smooth and for a 2.5 ton brick it's not too slow. The diesel is not brilliant unless it's the newer V8. |
Bluie, out of interest is there much difference in running costs between the 4.4 and 4.2?

MPG on the 3.0TD is good for mid to high 20's
MPG on the V8 is high teens maybe low 20's Petrol's cheaper than diesel so it kinda pans out in the TD v's V8 comparisions. The V8's got way more oomph the higher the revs go...but low down torque the Td pulls harder initially... it's down to what kind of drive u'r looking for. I know the TDV6 (2.7) maps up to +40bhp and +100Nm making it TDV8 territory... do not know what the 3.0L TD manages, but it is a BMW engine isn't it? |

TD6 Performance Options: Remapped chip increases power from 173bhp to 218bhp (increase of 45bhp) and torque from 390Nm to 488Nm (an increase of 98Nm) Effortless cruising and much improved acceleration |

With the new gearbox on the S/C I have only put it into sport twice whereas the old 4.4 used to live in sport. Insurance is higher, but not much, overall I'm glad I changed to the S/C |
Cheers for the response, I think the old man might get £15k for his a 12 month old S/C can be had for £44k only £29k to change........

Service on the S/C is more often ie once a year where as the 4.4 is dependant on driving style etc but would be about every 18 months |
He has had the MY04 from new and renews the warranty each year. It's whether he can wait another x2 years for the new one or whether he should get a 1 year old one now for x3 years then get a nearly new, new shape when it comes out??

The MY07 has many revamps over the MY04 such as new interior, suspension, gearbox, which makes a vast difference. The one just been launched is only cosmetics plus the 5.0 supercharged which goes extremely well.
If it were me I'd swopped now then in another 3 years when the completely new model gets launched. Autocar - Next Range Rover to be lighter, sharper |
