Just read the Autocar write up of the WRX STI and they said it's the 'best Impreza yet'.

Has anyone had the opportunity to drive the car yet and agree with the Autocar road test?

p.s. 0-60/0-100 times very impressive compared with the WRX.

For 32K it wants to have a lot more gold bits.

Well, I had the lucky opportunity to take the STi for a test drive earlier this week and compared to my modded B4, it was the flip side of a coin.

Not to say that my B4 is anything to cough at, but the STi was extremely torquey, loads of power to spare in every gear, tight tight tight handling, and yes, those gold BREMBO brakes (same size as those on the Skyline GT-R R34) but *far* better stopping power because of the lower weight of the car and probably a million other adjustments.

In a word, if I didn't have a family, a shiny WRC blue STi would be parked in my garage without a moment's notice. However, fitting a baby seat in the back would be a tad difficult... ;-)

Pictures on my website (follow the B4 Others link).

Cheers.

And if I forgot to mention, hurtling *down* a mountain road at over a 100 km/h and braking with full confidence going into a corner left me breathless and lusting after a set of those gold calipers...

£32k is too much. Ring around and you can get one for £25-27k. I was quoted £26k for one 2 weeks ago. In Japan they sell new for ~£17k.

legacyb4, what's the problem with the baby seat? it is 4 door isn't it? I have an STi V and the reason I bought it was because it's a good cross between a family car and a sports car.

I read a direct comparison between the new STi and an EVO VI (Japanese performance mag I think?)
They said the EVO was a better bet in most situations including handling (understeer issues again) and steering feel.
They suggested it wasn't as good as the outgoing STi model largely due to the weight penalty.
The only saving grace was that the EVO VII (new car) would have the same weight penalty as the new STi and the comparison would again be marginal/preferential.

Neil.

Neil

I think that was last months EVO that you read that, they compared WRX STI with a Makinen Edition EVO VI.

But then Autocar suggested the Evo VII was even better than the new STi?!?!

OH WHAT TO DO!!!

No they don't. Look at just over 20k. I just bought one. I also know 2 others who got slightly worse deals than me, so they are either just over 20k, or we're all getting shafted...

You'd need to be buying at trade prices to make importing to sell at 25k worth it by the time you look at taxes.

Mr. Legacy, where are you? I live in Shirogane. Fancy a beer?

I read that too, but they did compare the stripped out evo against the fully bloated STi. To be fair they should have run the STi RA against the stripped EVO.

Especially when the said the evo was better for the reasons you are likely find better in the RA (lighter weight, firmer ride, better handling).

Personally I quite like a car with automatic aircon, ICE, leccy windows. If I didn't I'd buy a 340R.
