I mean after the Driven debacle, we now have the WRC coverage...

They never have seem a good word to say about the Subaru team, and when they run into trouble they seem to love to have a good gloat. :(

What have Subaru done to them?

bug-eyed wonder 09 March 2002 08:18 PM

I think they too have realised that Mitsubishi are better.

robin ledger 09 March 2002 08:21 PM

I'm not going to rise to that old chestnut ;)

rr_ww 09 March 2002 09:25 PM

Maybe a better topic title would be Why is C4 rally coverage so shyte!" I am now only watching eurosport

Craig Mac 09 March 2002 09:41 PM

It seems to me that the main focus of C4 coverage is the British drivers and how well they are doing.
Its all peugeot and ford.
Pah!

scooby whip 09 March 2002 09:59 PM

Mitsibushi better? When I saw the rally standings Alistair wasnt even in the top 10!

Tommy was in third wastnt he until he hit standing water, aquaplaned and hit a rock...rotton luck.

I think with Subaru's luck they should be running more than two cars...

bloody 206's!!

robin ledger 09 March 2002 10:37 PM

Ah yes,

those British drivers... how well are they doing?

I seem to remember that both of them won the World Series in past, one of them more then once! But what were they driving then? ;)

Also, Tommi was a bit nervous 'cause he had a big off there last year. But, what was he driving then? ;)

I think in a place like Corsica with *very* twisty roads the 'super minis' are better suited, and so should have the advantage.

But, the Scoobies got in amongst them where certain 'other cars' failed. ;)

MikesWagon 09 March 2002 11:31 PM

Can't see the attraction with Eurosport myself. The coverage is very similar (what there is of it), the slot is usually for half an hour, but it's a bit of a lottery if it actually starts when advertised. Take adverts and sponsorship messages etc into account and you've probably got about 15mins of a program left. On last years Rally GB I watched 10-15mins of repeated action, and saw 2 advert breaks before the latest stages. Bl***y great that was.

C4 - ok there's adverts, but not as many/long? It's a mainstream channel, showing at peak time, and when advertised. It's also a British channel, so why wouldn't they concentrate on the British drivers?

"I seem to remember that both of them won the World Series in past, one of them more then once! But what were they driving then?" Can you explain this comment, won what more than once?

Mike.

Carlos The Jackel 09 March 2002 11:41 PM

? C4 coverage isn't great but i see no bias against any car! maybe you should get out more! the focus is on the British drivers, it wouldnt do their viewing figures much good if they spent all their time following the subarus just because you own one!

Andrewza 09 March 2002 11:45 PM

I didn't think they were particularly anti-subaru, but they are pro british and at the time the subaru misfortune was promoting two british drivers.

The pair in the studio are pretty useless, I mean getting to a driver to sign something on air? Am I the only person to think it looks amateurish?

Penny Mallory poking her mic in driver's face at every opportunity asking dull questions and getting an indecisive or no answer? Blah!

Am I only the only person who would rather see more of the actual rallying? More in-car, more helicopter chasing car shots. I quite like the video comparisons of different drivers and the CGI versions of the cars racing each other, gives you more of an idea how and why things are panning out the way the are, shame they seem to use it infrequently.

Anyhow, rant over ;)

Andrew

robin ledger 09 March 2002 11:53 PM

"it wouldnt do their viewing figures much good if they spent all their time following the subarus just because you own one!"

>> it would in this house....! ;)

Carlos The Jackel 10 March 2002 12:09 AM

LOL - I think if we saw more rallying it would help:D There is hardly any action shown.

Craig Mac 10 March 2002 12:18 AM

I didnt mean that they shouldnt concentrate on the brit lads -
they have to of course, because its a British programme and thats what most viewers want to see........
Its just that because of this their teams will get more coverage.

P1Fanatic 10 March 2002 08:17 AM

That Penny Mallory is utter sh1te. She talks like she is on steroids and very rarely has anything interesting to say. On driven theny make out she is some former rally champion, yet she does a passenger ride with Alistair Mcrae in the Evo7 and does not look at all comfortable even though it appears hes not driving flat out.

The rest of the coverage is good although the two chumps in the studio also leave a lot to be desired. I think they should focus on more in car clips. However you cant complain seeing as its there first attempt.

Seamus300 10 March 2002 03:16 PM

I did notice that the 1 hour Saturday night slot from the first 2 rallies was reduced to 45 minutes last night and the 11am Saturday morning 30 minute slot has gone altogether. Bah..

scooby_si 10 March 2002 03:46 PM

& only 30mins tonight seems a little harsh:(

navigator 10 March 2002 09:12 PM

penny was a " british " ladies champ she drove a cossie, not very quickly hardly "wash and gone". and i think there were only one or two other lady drivers in championship. So it was no big deal. However factually its correct.
like you i dont think she has ever been that quick before as she went with alastair.
Certainly she nearly rammed me off the road when she drove a mk 2 escort and we were rushing to get to a time control near carmarthem.Never forgave her for that!! So she ain't too bright on tarmac.

stavros 10 March 2002 09:47 PM

i noticed that today and i made the same qhestion to myself.....maybe because the drivers are not english

SimonEvoExtreme 10 March 2002 09:48 PM

Come on guys. Is this paranoia finally setting into Scoobynet? As far as I am aware, these 2 programs were commissioned from 2 completely unrelated production companies so it would be them who are biased! Or maybe you think that part of the brief was to make anti Scooby programs.

The reason for the way the coverage goes is very easy to understand. In the case of Driven, the Evo was a better car in the tests they carried out. Before you all get upset, it was the type of test that caused the result. If they had given the Evo and Scooby to people for a week and asked them which was the better everyday car, the result might have been very different. The Scooby is very good at what it does and nobody can take that away from it.

As for the rallying, the reason that Scooby doen't get the coverage is because the car is c###. So is the Mitsubishi and in fact, everything except the Pug at the moment. If Scooby didn't have the best driver there has probably every been, the car would be doing even worse, just like Mitsubishi.

bug-eyed wonder 10 March 2002 10:21 PM

let's avoid CH4 in protest. ;)

Carlos The Jackel 10 March 2002 10:34 PM

When are they going to build a 4wd 2ltr turbo pug for selling?:D:D

MikesWagon 10 March 2002 10:34 PM

Robin,

you've lost me again mate. Since you started this thread, would you mind clearing up a few things?

You said: "Ah yes,

those British drivers... how well are they doing?

I seem to remember that both of them won the World Series in past, one of them more then once! But what were they driving then?". So what did one of them win more than once? You've posted since I asked this yesterday, why no reply?

You said: "Yes, it's just that I don't think the 'brit lads' would not be where they are today without the help of Fujitsu Heavy Industries.

if you know what I mean... ". Not sure I do, you don't think they would not be where they are today, in other words you think they would be where they are today without FHIs help.

I'm not trying to be pedantic or anything, just like to know.

Mike.

rapiddescent 11 March 2002 02:06 PM

come on guys. don't tell me you are naive enough to believe that the shiney WRX out on your drive is even that similar to the WRC car?

completely and utterly different. These are just racing cars with shells on them to look like whatever they want them to look like. The cars handle according how their drivers like them on an individual basis... They don't share parts with our cars, they have entirely different wiring...

just about the only similarity apart from a broadly recogniseable shape - is the logo on the front.

Thats why I prefer watching the lower classified groups. much more like real cars...

bioforger 11 March 2002 02:49 PM

Carlos they already have in the 80's, the T16 205 roadcar. Pretty sh1te compared to cars of today thou. The E1,E2 groupB rallycars are a different story though :D

Peugeot pay a lot of money for those 307 adverts.

"A car is not just a number". Worst advert of the year. :)

Why do EVO like Subarus so much?

juan 11 March 2002 04:25 PM

Peugeot are really flying at the moment aren't they!

The Crushinator 11 March 2002 04:55 PM

I hate C4. Strictly Eurosport from now on. Have y' noticed how they're trying to create a rivalry between the peugeot drivers to make their coverage seem tense etc etc, They really should shut up, and give us the facts...

MikesWagon 12 March 2002 09:03 AM

Hello Robin

Have you left the country, hibernating or something?

Still waiting for some answers please. Scared in case I missed somebody winning something good.

Mike.

robin ledger 03 October 2002 12:27 AM

Yes, it's just that I don't think the 'brit lads' would not be where they are today without the help of Fujitsu Heavy Industries.

if you know what I mean... ;)
