Impreza on trailer

Hi All,

Right im trying to find a trailer that i can put the scooby on, the scooby is stripped out with just a roll cage, shell and engine pretty much (track car), so im guessing its around 1ton

I want to tow this on the back of my focus, which is capable of towing up to 1400kg. Now im trying to find a trailer to fit the scooby on... i want a twin axle, but the brian james trailer ones ive seen are just half a meter too short to get the scooby on (without haning over the back a bit)

Now what trailer size does everyone else use to tow the scooby on?

You say your Focus can tow 1400Kgs but that has to include the weight of the trailer as well. A stripped out scoob with a cage may still be around 1200Kgs so your trailer must not weigh more than 200kgs. Physical trailer length may not be your only concern.

If you get stopped by BiB towing above your cars weight limit you'll get nobbled bigtime. A Focus towing a large trailer with a family sized 4dr car on board is an easy target for BiB and they won't need to think twice about pulling you.

I'd be more concerned about having an appropriate towing vehicle that's properly up to the job.

Trailer for a scoob (IIRC something like a Brian James A max) weighs best part of 500kg. I've stripped my 03STi and only got 120kg out of it then added 50kg back with the cage and lightweight seats so still 1400kg (havn't stripped the doors yet). You need a tow capacity of near 2 tonne. Some Foresters are close to this.

I've towed a Stripped Saxo on a Fountain C100 (about 1100kg all up) with my runabout 02 Focus 2.0 Zetec petrol (tow capacity 1200kg), its OK but I wouldn't want to tow any more weight with it. Hate to say it but a bit of diesel grunt would help.

Im in two minds now weather to sell the scooby and get something like a 205gti as a track car instead...

I could rent a van or something when i need to tow the car, but im under 25 and most places do not allow you to rent a car/van till your over 25.

Had another idea while seaching the net... using one of these:
http://www.caratow.com/index.php

They say they're road ligal as it turns the car into a braked trailer, and all you do is bang your cars plate on the back.

This means i will be within my weight limit for the car too... hmm decisions decisions
