Need to get another scoob, but which classic?
 

after nearly 2 years of no subaru ownership and drooling over countless cars for sale i cant take it any longer, i have to buy another classic. sold my jap import sti v3 and before that i had a lovely dbm uk turbo with coilovers, big brakes, full decat and andy forrest remap. loved both of them. question is, i want another classic, and its the only shape i really like and i love them, but im torn between which model to go for. i have seen a mint 1 owner silver classic, 60k standard bar quickshift and backbox up for £5k ono, and also a mint rb5, with coilovers, remap, decat, whiteline goodies etc, 66k £5995 ono. the rb5 looks that bit more special with the standard bigger 17" rims, lowered ride height and obviously more power with the remap, plus its a ltd edition car so rarer, but is it worth the extra money over the other car. i know that if i did buy the standard car i would end up throwing money at it to get it to the same spec as the rb5. or should i look at going back down the jdm route again? opinions please :wonder:

IMO an RB5 that has been messed about with doesnt really hold its special model status anymore as its now just a classic that has been modded.
If you can find a clean RB5, Terzo or Catalunya it might be worth thinking of the special edition, If not then just go for a nice clean UK2000.
Well thats my opinion, but I have been known to be almost consistently wrong.

thing is u say messed about with, but the mods on the rb5 have been done properly and will only make the car better to drive, from my experience with my old uk turbo i was soon used to the standard power hence why went down the exhaust/remap route, at least that has been taken care of already. on the 5k turbo i would have to end up buying downpipe, mid pipe, remap, droplinks, rear arb, etc etc, this would all add up to big ££££. but then again finding a mint 1 owner classic that is standard holds its own appeal. decisions decisions.

I dont mean messed about with as in its bad, I just mean special additions are IMO best left as factory. I held out for ages and found a one owner FSH UK2000, its absolute minter but it took about 3 years to find the right one.
There are normally a few nice classics for sale on here and by members that are known to look after there cars. I dont envy your decision, I would have liked to have bought two, one fast one and one standard. (in a way I kind of did but two newages and one classic)

Out of the two the rb5 without question. Ive personally allways liked them and i think they look great in steel grey. It wouldnt put me off going for one with those mods on that particular car. Like youve said they will enhance the car tenfold and save you a few quid.

yes i do really like that rb5, bit more than i was wanting to spend though but if i could get it for £5400 id be a very happy man! fingers crossed!

id personaly go jdm, type r if i had the money then mod it up

like the type r's but want a 4dr as have a 2yr old and easier to get him in and out of his recaro childseat. lol. does anyone know if the rb5 came with prodrive quickshift as standard or was that only the wr sport models?

just joking mate :lol1: i would go for the rb5 as its a rarity and they look awesome me personally would rather have an rb5 than a p1 but thats just me :D.

when i come back to scooby ownership i might have to look at these

you had me going there for a second!! id better pull my finger out or it will be gone knowing my luck! 80mls from me so not too bad, god i so want to get into another scoob!

go see it and offer him the £5400 you never know especially in the current climate .worth it :thumb:

I seem to recognise that RB5 from somewhere........I wonder if the owner is a member of Tyne Tees Scoobies ?

Nice RB5, but those mods won't see standard STi 6 power. It'll handle well mind!
I think it has to be STi 6 for me, in white!

I would get the RB5 (looks a good one) if you are going to mod a standard UK2000 anyway.

Jay is correct about the quickshift as well.

RB5 all the way. Beautiful looking car and as its rare so should hold value alot better than 2000 turbo. Love the RB5 colour. Dont know much about them but do they have same engine as turbo 2000? Thanks

Get yourself an RB5 I bought mine a year ago and never looked back
I am yet to see another once since buying it and alot of people say it looks brilliant
