Returned to Subarus with a clunk!

Hi Everyone

Got myself another subaru after an 18 month break from my type r but its just a cheapo this time!

Car is a '98 uk turbo saloon and drives really well apart from this really loud thud/clunk from the rear passenger side....

I have searched threads and thought it may be the rear drop links which seem common but not sure if it could be the exhaust hitting the diff or even a shock or top mount?

When i press down rear quarter panel i can feel a little play but only on passenger side and the clunk occurs over any bump what so ever....

Any ideas?

Cheers

Probably the shocks. Mine clunked over bumps for about a year until I got round to replacing the shocks and been fine since. Rear shocks are fairly common and the near-side goes first as the roads are always full of potholes on that side.

Thats great boss cheers as long as its not doing harm although its MOT time soon!

Mine passed an MOT with them clunking but because they weren't leaking visibly I guess it doesn't matter. There is another post on here about re-greasing them. I heard its possible but I don't think it helps much or for long. Worth checking out perhaps.

In the end I just got annoyed with the noise and bought 2 shocks from camskill (cheapest place I could find) and fitted them myself. I'm glad I did it as it turns out they old ones weren't working very well at all anyway.

You can't regrease normal shocks, only the inverted kind (newage STi and WRX from 05).

Deffo the rear shock and its leaking so going to get some OE spec shocks. Camskill seem cheapest for KYB £120 for the pair delivered?

Anyone know of any better deals? i dont have money to burn on this car as its just my toy.

cheers

KYB's from Camskill or buypartsby are about the same price.
