bored in the muppet forum this morning and Neal pointed out (quite rightly) that my engine bay is a bit mucky.....

Whats the best way to clean it? same stuff as I wash the car with?
Is there anything I should avoid polishing too much?
also where could I get some samco intenal hoses?

ok I am bored:)

Steam cleaning is the quickest/easiest option. A visit to the jetwash should do the trick as well.

Be sure to cover all electrics BEFORE a steam job though - as water in the distributer etc will cause you grief :o

If you jet wash the engine beware not to spray on the intercooler as it will bend the fins.
I personally wouldnt do it.
You can buy some spray which you use and then wipe off.
Dont think the electrics and alarm would appreciate it, and I would have thought the power would be too much.
The wax wizard sells some i think.

Good luck.

eek I wouldn't go near it with a steam cleaner :D I think I'll stick with soapy water :)
Thanks anyway.

Dizzy

Just ordered a set of samco's myself (thought not for a scoob). Apparantly Rally Design carry the most stock, but if you go to the samco web page you'll get a list of distributors.

Dizzy,

The best stuff i`ve come across yet was hycote engine cleaner.
Spray on, leave it a bit, then wipe off ;)
Last time I did it I went OTT and used a toothbrush on hard 2 reach bits, no need 2 tell u it took ages
Halfords do a pretty good spray on as well (their own brand)

'GUNK'

warm engine, spray it on, leave it for 5 mins, wash with water (engine running)= clean engine

stinks for a couple of days but it does the job, leaves a waterproof film too.

you can get it in halfords.

Easiest way of getting rid of that dirty engine.....just shut the bonnet, job done.

teknopete 10 March 2002 02:09 AM

LOL @ JKJ, need 2 remember that, might improve the dynamics :D

MichelleWRX1994 10 March 2002 02:14 AM

I wondered why I couldn't see through the windscreen

Is there any product anyone would like to recommend for cleaning the crap off the engine?

Cheers,

Michelle.
