Turbo impeller shaft play !! How Much ??
TD04L. If you grab the impeller shaft with a finger & thumb & wiggle up & down there is quite a bit of play, Enough for a visible gap to appear between the blades & the inlet housing.
There does not appear to be any scoring on the inlet housing & i do understand that when oil is being pumped around the Turbo this Nodd will lesson, But it just seems a little excessive ?? This is a replacement Turbo & i did not want to go to the efforts of swapping fro swappings sake .... There is no in & out play of the shaft (Push & Pull) Thoughts ? Cheers, Dean |
As you said, once the oil has circulated it normally reduces the amount of "lift" in the
shaft/bearings. This should help to assess the condition : http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4.../turboplay.jpg Mick |

Glad to help Dean - it's also wise to prime the turbo with oil prior to final fitting of the banjo bolts and starting the engine.
