Thinking of getting one for my wife, anyone on here got one? What do you think. It was world car of the year 2008 so can't be all that bad........can they?

Not so good here :Top ten best small cars

Famously and ludicrously named World Car of the Year 2008. The Mazda2 is nippy and has strong engines, but really isn't all that.

Daughter has a Tamura on order at the moment for Sept delivery. We test drove a Ts2 which I thought drove very well, and in Tamura spec (basically a sport) is very good VFM.

NCAP 5 stars, 6 airbags and 55MPG gets a thumbs up from me. Only niggles I could see were over light (electric) power steering, and only the passenger seat moves forward when the backreast is folded (pennny pinching).

Cheers for that Allan. Yep the Tamura is the one to go for from what I have read on the net, hope your daughter enjoys it. the NCAP rating is important for me too as my two grandkids will be riding in it for much of the time. Thanks for your contribution:thumb:

No problem :thumb: let us know how you get on if you go for it. I know when we spoke to our dealer he said there were very few left, although I'm not sure I believe that.

Colour choice is the only other problem with the Tamura. Splash Green is a bit in your face, Grey looked very dull when dirty and the Ebony Red looked like it would show every mark. She chose the Aluminium Silver.

The Mazda 2 forum might be useful, although it's going to be down for maintainence all weekend.

Sidetracking a little bit here but I have a 55 plate Mazda 3- it's totally reliable, solidly made, smooth and well equipped. If the newer mazda 2 is anything like it you'll be chuffed to bits. :thumb:
Also, I had the new Seat Ibiza as a loan car a while back... cracking little car, couldn't fault it, even had a largish boot. :D

Go drive the new Fiesta. Fantastic car, even though it shares the same platform as the 2 in a totally different league!

And in a totally different price range, like for like I'd guess the Fiesta is at least £1000 more.

Fair enough, but a grand more you get a totally superior car.

Checking Fiesta prices, it's nearer 2K more. I've not driven the new Fiesta, but I can't seeing it being totally superior. Besides it's a Ford ;) I know there're based on the same chassis, but Mazda build quality is far superior.

Ford's are great when you buy them new, 4 years down the line it's a different story.

Had one did,nt really rate it was v poor on fuel (1.5L) only used to average 34mpg plenty of stuff, cruise control etc, but poorly finished, the drivers seat squeeked like a nest of mice.:(

Hi Gaz, is that the Mazda or Ford you are talking about?

Update. Ended up buying her a new Hyundai i10. What a super little run about it is, £35 per year road tax(£30 next year)cheap to insure and run and comes with a 5 year warranty. I would recommend you take a look at one if you are wanting a little run around.:thumb:
