Had the Sti UK almost a week now....far far too quiet...laggy as hell below 4000rpm and seems to suffocate above 6000rpm.

Any advice from people that know more than me...re/. best new exhaust system or generally how to sort this dissapointing problem out??

Hope you are running it in correctly, but It will loosen up and will feel more drivable when it does, I'm sure.
If you want an exhaust etc Pete Croney at sccobysport will be happy to take your money.

6000rpm on a car less than a week old :eek: - I wouldn't go anywhere near that until after the first oil change.

Run it in nice and easy.Covered 3700mile in mine now and loosened up nicely.
And the standard exhaust is very restrictive.

I seem to be taking some flack for my run-in procedure from the boys that pretend to know!

My question for the forum was how to improve my car, not how to run a car in. There is always the car manual to tell me if I'm not sure how to run a car in.

I have been very very well advised that generally respect the run-in max rpm but certainly push things to the limiter on the very odd occasion during the first 1000 miles.

If anyone wants to dispute this then e-mail me offline and I will tell you which of my mates (in Japan) has given me fact not opinion. This is also not the first new car I've owned by any means and certainly not the first scooby.

Paul, the PPP should be out soon so you will have a few more bhp and a nicer exhaust to boot ;)
As for running in.... 4000rpm (in my MY00) equates to over 100mph! so its going to be the same for the STi, and the reason people say dont exceed 4k is the fact that the oil you have in is very thin so that parts can wear together, excessive rpm in the first 1k miles can actually damage your engine :( (also keep fluctuating your rpm and dont sit at one speed for too long).
You also say the car is lathargic below 4k, well it will be, subaru engines are notorious to run in and you wont get much in the way of performance until your pushing 5-8k miles as she's going to have to loosen up some.
Just give it some time, they do improve ;)

I'd be very very disappointed with u if u didn't top 100mph during your running in procedure - it worked well last time, so why not this time ??!!

U should think about a Scorpion exhaust system with a trumpet at the end, that'll solve your loundness problems. Have u ever heard one ??!!

Chill - its entirely up to you how you run it in - but ever thought the above four people might be right and your mate might be wrong?! (don't think I'd know him if you emailed me?!)

Why not wait a few months until the rumoured Prodrive upgrade is available - in that way you'll preserve the warranty on the car.
