Conversion Help

Can anyone tell me the best way to convert my RA from KMH to MPH and delimit. Scooby Clinic want £160 to do it but i have seen some items on ebay that you can fit onto the speedo cable at the back of the clocks for around £60. Are these any good and do they do what i want??????

depends how your speedo works really as they are either cable driven (92-96 cars)or electronic as to which converter you require.
My 93 wrx one was about £50.

as above, if its a pre 97 car it probably has a mechanical cable convertor - mine was an electronic chip which I soldered into place myself. Got the chip of eBay for about £25, was easy enough to fit. If you do need the electronic one make sure you solder the connectors - I used block connectors first and they didn't work properly so had to solder them.

Note that once you do this the odometer reading will count up in miles rather than km. so make a note of the mileage in km before you convert it, so you can work out the overall mileage later if you need to

I have one I dont use. I've got used KPH now. Got it for my 94 WRX and never used it. It's the type that fits on the back of the speedo.

That is what i have been looking at on ebay. Are you wanting to sell it. Iam a bus Driver so i will never get used to driving without looking at my speedo because anything over 20mph is to fast for me to judge. Joking apart mate if you want to sell it i would buy it from you. What about derestricting is this a seperate issue or does this gadget do that aswell???. I am running a 94 type ra imported in 2006 Has optional extras such as air con and electric windows, not a bit of rust, just needs some tlc and it will look as though it has just come out of the showroom.

The car is set to recognise 180kph as the restricted speed, by using the coverter you are effectively telling the car the limit is now 180mph ... Ie. De-restricted

however bear in mind that the short ratio ra gearbox will physically limit top speed to around 115 mph anyway
