Help!! - 2000 Classic not running very well .....
 

...... after going through a puddle, errr, more like a lake!!
Aside from abusing :hjtwofingChiltern District Council :hjtwofingand :hjtwofingBucks Highway Agency:hjtwofing, I now have a problem.

Collected my Chinese Take-Away from my local, and took it home. Turned off the roundabout and there was a lake infront of me.
Nailed the brakes, foot on clutch and held the revs high and took it slowly through said lake.
Started misfiring and spitting and drove it carefully not to put too much strain on the engine. CEL light did come on then went off, after the puddle.
eventually she started boosting and pulling like a train again, pulled up outside my friends, couple of blips to make sure all was good, let her spin down for 2 mins, wound up window and turned her off.

Got in her about 00:45, started then 5 secs later died. started her again, same issue. did this a couple of times to no avail.
Rang another friend, help! He came out signaling his arrival with a superb handbrake turn, could hear it!!
Both had a look, air filter out, checked leads etc etc. still she would not stay running.
went back this morning, still would not run.
Uplugged connector to the MAF and she ran. Left her for a couple of mins running, turned her off, started her again and she ran, stoppedher ,plugged MAF back in, ran for 5 secs and stopped.

Unplugged MAF started her and drove back home, luckily only 2 mins away.

Disconnected battery for 30 mins, reconnected and still the same issues.

Is it the MAF? Seems to point to it or should i be looking somewhere else.

Anybody know any reputable Scooby specialists in Bucks near wycombe?? Or someone with a MAF I could try?

Cash waiting if someone has a spare one.

To be honest by what you have said about abusing the councils and you mate doing hand break turns, it sounds to me like your a total @rsehole who needs to grow up!!

If you had blipped the throttle and left the engine running outside my house at 12.15AM, I would have been straight outside in a really foul mood!

Car's probably died from all the previous abuse it's been given. :Whatever_

Abuse to the councils was due to their inability to correct a problem with our roads which we pay for.
I m sure if you hit that puddle cum lake, you might say the same about your council, especially if it caused an issue with your car.
As for the personal comment, say what you like. I was not the one in @ 22:26 with nothing better to do, than make cr@p comments about peoples posts.

And we weren't the ones blipping our throttles @ 12.15 am in a residential area... :thumb:

How do you know the cum lake was the council's fault? If Top Gear from a couple of weeks back is accurate, it could have been caused by a group of teenage girls spontaneously combusting in response to your mate's handbrake turns. ;)

Cut him some slack guys, Just because he doesnt worry about waking up the great british public and has a mate whos a tool (we all have a mate like that, and if you cant think who it is..... its you !!).

Bottom line is he ploughs his money into a Scooby like the rest of us and for whatever the reason he's bricked it. Comes on here looking for assistance and as yet hasnt had any.

If he had started his question sensibly by simply saying that he had a problem with his engine, and left out the part about leaving his engine running for 2 mins after midnight (folks with kids will know the problem of getting young kids back to sleep!!) and about his mate being a nob, then he might have got some help. But no he comes on here thinking its clever!!
Its @rseholes like this that cause problems for other sensible and mature owners!!!

A knob with a problem to share is still a knob. Help him, but don't pretend his antisocial behaviour hasn't been highlighted by himself.

Also not shocked you're from Wycombe as I lived there for a couple of years and the amount of times I was woken up by wheel spinning, exhaust beancan and general chavvishness was pretty regular!

Anyway, take your car up to Zen Performance or API.

I always look to this forum for assistance, and while there is an eclectic mix of owners more often than not help is at hand when required.

I was all up for that at the beginning but the lake comment was far too good to resist. Biggest problem with providing assistance is that Paul hasn't told us what type and model year his car is, so making it difficult for anyone in possession of a spare airflow sensor to know whether theirs will be any use to the OP.

The secondary issue is that the "Disconnected battery for 30 mins" would, in the case of a classic, have wiped any stored trouble codes, thus making it impossible to understand with certainty what the fault was.

id be looking at 0200 with mine old c.nt:lol: i am but never mind dont feel it:D his words was a little mixed expected off the people nowadays anyway give him a bit off slack and address the problem :thumb:

unplugged maf car was fine, plugged it back in car not running right

hasnt your hand brake kid mate got the same car so you can try his maf ???
