STI V7 PS 07 March 2002 08:00 PM

Which one will you choose for track?? :)

chuckster 08 March 2002 10:12 AM

Out of the box the STI, because the 22B brakes are pants.
But...Upgrade the brakes and I'll take the 22B.
But then...Upgrade the suspension on the STI and I'll take that.
But then...Upgrade the suspension on the 22B and I'm back in that.
But then..Upgrade the power in the STI to > 276 and I'm back in that, thinking the front lsd will let me get the power on earlier in the corners.
It's a nonsense question. I'll keep my 22B.

You are P1 WRX and I claim my prize? ;)

Mellow Yellow ! 08 March 2002 11:17 AM

My P1 seems well suited on track....the gearing on the new STi may not be as track friendly ?

ChrisB 08 March 2002 11:20 AM

I thought it was P1 WR?

chiark 08 March 2002 12:58 PM

Aaah yes! You're right. I think you should claim the prize :) :D

TonyBurns 08 March 2002 01:37 PM

Agree with mellow re the gearing, the first 3 gears are normally kept the same then they chop the next 3 down so your higher up the range, gives you good power on the roads but probably too much changing to do on a track :(
the 22B is probably the better car for the track as its got a wider track due to the wheels etc, but as said, brakes are naff and no ABS so will make things quite interesting in the wet
I'd just get a 205 gti, shove a 2ltr engine in it and go for glory ;) much cheaper and your going to scare a few people too! (including yourself!) ;)

Tony:D

Adam M 08 March 2002 02:19 PM

thanks tony.

I hve a 22b and a 205 gti. just need this 2 litre thingy now. where do I get that from?

STI V7 PS 08 March 2002 09:38 PM

I think 22B will do better when it is dry but when it comes to wet STI shows itself.
When will EVO mag do a 4*4 supertest 2???Do you have any ideas??

Great~taste~Bloke 08 March 2002 09:57 PM

highly modded 205 very scary! I had two of them?
but now have a modded p1 amd want nothing peugot except the new sports car spades, club or something?

Chris Barn 09 March 2002 12:50 AM

MkII Escort with 2.1Pinto and LSD, roll cage, plumbed in fire extinguiser, RAC log book, RAC Stage rally licence, Heart of England Championship + some change from either car + you get to compete in a real drivers atmosphere..

Go Rallying....

johnfelstead 09 March 2002 01:13 AM

But then you have to get your hands dirty. Regularly break something. Work your bollox off in all weathers. Spend a fortune on tyres.

Bloody brilliant. :D

As to original question. 22B for towing the westie would work for me. Keep the STi Type UK for comuting. :D

rsquire 09 March 2002 05:18 AM

22B for towing the westie
Jonathan.. you know full well that the 22B manual says you can't tow with it ..

:p

You're just a little stirrer aren't you :D :D :D

TonyBurns 09 March 2002 12:12 PM

Adam,
Just find a breakers or find one of the 1.9 16v engines from a BX gti 16v, should make quite an interesting track car ;)

Tony:D

oh just dont use that french parts place in stockport ;)

johnfelstead 09 March 2002 03:05 PM

Bugger richard, you spotted that. :D LOL

Mike Tuckwood 11 March 2002 11:30 AM

Prize for funniest post this year goes to Chuckster. LOL :D
Runners up prizes for everyone who posted between that post and this post. :D

Jza 12 March 2002 01:34 PM

4th gear on the STI UK = 3rd in the UK WRX.

So its BETTER for track days than the 5 speed - not worse!!!!!

Try harder next time you P1 guys!!!

Jza

Adam M 12 March 2002 02:56 PM

I dont think so jza.

on my last rtack day I rarely left 4the gear, certainly didnt go any lower than third.

Such is the 22B sprint gering of the jap cars at least.

More gears generally mean narrower power band.

I would rather use the torque and concentrate on the braking/steering.

chiark 12 March 2002 03:58 PM

What's the cornering like?

chuckster 12 March 2002 04:00 PM

Cheeky one Nick. You corner like a pro.
