STI lateral arms
 

whats the crack with these? why are they worth so much and what do they do over standard lateral arms?

im talking about the 2 arms on the rear suspension that are painted pink on a classic!

You can get STI lateral links and STI trailing arms. They are the same as standard ones apart from they are pink and have uprated bushes fitted to them.

I saw those advertised before in a Jap mag (Banzai I think). You can get them from "www.psupply.com" it said but I could never find the correct site or supplier. They were advertised as STi Lateral Link kit from £235.80 and STi Lower Arms kit from £276.13. Any ideas on a proper supplier? not buying them though if the colours the only difference:hjtwofing (just paint my own some other gay colour:D)

You can get them from RCM. Thats where I'm getting mine from.
They do improve the whole 'movement' of the rear suspension as the bushes are uprated.
Expensive for what they are though...

cant you just find a company that supplies bushes and then get the old ones out and new ones in?

I needed a new trailing arm, so bought the very pink STI ones from Litchfield's, they come with a spherical bearing to sharpen the handling. I'm looking to poly-bush the hub end at the same time...

They have better triple pillow bushes so they work better

Would Hawkeye spec D arms work on a bugeye then? or are they longer?

This was a topic on 22B a while back, IIRC it's the hubs that alter the rear geometry, not the arms...

But don't sue me if I'm wrong...

Rear GD arms are 410mm, GC are 400. I hear the GD wagon arms are shorter but I dont know for sure. It will all bolt together though.

Wrong; they are not bushes but pillow ball spherical bearing...totally different from much cheaper uprated bushes.

Im selling a set of Sti Pink lateral links suitable for newage upto 2004 & earlier. (not for the wider track Imprezas after 2004). They were hardly used & in very good condition, the bushings are perfect & just a bit of pink paint scratched off in places. I will post up pics & put in for sale section soon but am open to sensible offers in the meantime. (considering they are approx £400 plus new).

I know they wouldnt be pink but isnt it just as easy to uprated the bushes in the standard arms? they are a press in/out rubber bush so easy to do or are the arms actually stronger?

nope, read the thread :p they are pillow ball spherical bearings...completely different to uprated bushes. Which is why they are so expensive ;)

Cant see the need for the spherical bearings on a road car to be honest. Last year I removed all the bushes on the suspension and replaced them with powerflex bushes. This was on my race RA and it made a significant difference. On a road car removing the arms and replacing the bushes would, in my opinion, provide a firmer set up and retain some level of comfort and be cheaper than the pink arms even if like me you got them powder coated. It is a pain getting the old bushes out but the new powerflex bushes went in easily

This year I have changed over to fully adjustable rose jointed lateral and trailing arms to give me more flexibility but they are VERY noisy and would drive you mad in a road car.

I have also heard of the rear hub debate relating to the camber adjustment. I went through this a few months ago when I had clearance issues at the rear. My new coilover were VERY close to the tyres, 235's, when I adjusted the camber via the camber bolts. I changed the type R R180 hubs for a set of newage STI hubs - result zero difference in the end I changed the coilovers for an inverted set which solved my issues so I am pretty certin that there is no difference in the camber available between newage and classic rear hubs.
