Hi Scooby owners!

I am seriously considering buying an Impreza turbo 5 door to replace a much loved Peugeot 306 Gti6. The family has expanded by way of baby and labrador and the Pug is too small. I am wondering whether there is enough room in the back of the 5 door for a lab and would welcome any thoughts from dog owners.

Ps It would not be the latest version, probably MY 1999 or 2000.

Regards

Harry

I have a Welsh Springer and she used to fit in the back of my wagon fine. Subaru do a very nice dog guard as an accessory and it costs ~£100ish. The only thing I would mention is the sound of "scrabbling paws" in the boot. The dog will go all over the place so please remember its there!

German Shepherd Dog, kids, wife, top-box, trailer, easy peesy!! ;)

Go for it man, you KNOW it makes sense!! go for the MY00 over the MY99 - not much in it in price but you get maplights and those sexy 6-spoke silver wheels!! :D

Christ, now it's six spokes! If the golds = gay do five spoke mean Bi??

Harry, take him/her for a test drive and see how you get along.

Market's so slow gettting rid of the dog hairs will give em something to fill their time ;)

Thanks everyone for your help - I am now very tempted to take the plunge.

Pete - I do live in Hampshire (Amport, a village about 3 miles from Thruxton) but know nobody with Subaru and German Shepherd so can't be THAT Harry Miller!

Harry,

we've a black lab Milo, he'll be 2 next week, say aw..... anyway we had a Corrado when we got him as a pup, and lifting him in wasn't funny when he grew.

So we plumped for a 5dr Scoob. Plenty of room for him to get comfy, low enough window line to see out, he even jumps in no probs. It's got one of these plastic boot liners which is good for catching all the dirt, but you need a blanket or similar to stop him sliding all over the place.

If you're buying from a dealer, get them to throw in a dog guard as part of the deal.:D Our MY99 will be up for sale soon, but suppose Aberdeen's a bit far for you?

Mike.

Well, I've had plenty of dogs in mine and it's only a two door :D:D

Irish Setter in mine - plenty of room for more stuff.

She loves it!

No probs with a border collie in my 5dr MY94, she even looks where we're going and leans into corners :)

Even had 5 adults (on seats!), and 2 collies and a rottweiler (in boot!) in it recently with no probs!

Think a lab should be ok in a wagon. Maggie the Weimaraner fitted ok, though as she got bigger she decided she really did not like travelling in the back of the wagon, probably cos it was too loud (rather big exhaust system you see!)

Bludax 08 March 2002 04:10 PM

Ample room in my 5 door WRX for two golden retrievers, so you should have no problem with one lab.

Maggie actually just has some taste and prefers luxury :D
i dont think wagons are that big in the boot a legacy would be better...mind u u could always get a 4 dr(much better) and use a harness!!!..this is much more comfy for your dog and i have to say think it maybe safer as when u brake suddenly the dog in the boot of a car would get thrown against the dog gaurd!! i have known of a dog in a crate in a boot of a car get some bad injuries from hitting the side of the crate hard!!
just thought i'd have to add my tuppence worth ..happy hunting :D

Goldfinger 08 March 2002 10:27 PM

Would it fit a Newfoundland? Just a quick question as a friend is comtemplating getting a wagon or alternatively a Forrester Turbo S ...

Cheers
Phil :D
