Headlights

Hi folks was wondering if you can help, I have two problems, the first is the sidelights on my 2006 wrx, you can hardly see them, they are so dull, I have new bright white bulbs in them but still very dull, is this normal for these lights or is their something wrong, the second is the o/s dipped headlight, it doesnt come on, I have the standard xenon lights but it started to go off every so often but once turned back on would light up, then one night I turned my lights on and it came on then out again and now doesnt go on at all, would this be the bulb or something more, any help would be great :)

Sidelights: they ARE only 5W each, they aren't meant to be too bright;)

Look at the bulb connectors for traces of corrosion, and the bulbs for evidence of blackening, however. Swap blackened bulbs for new ones, clean corroded connectors with emery cloth etc. NOT wire wool as bits drop off and can cause shorts:eek:

Headlight: you say yoy have the standard Xenon lights? Do you mean "Xenon" branded bulbs, or HID's?

If it's bulbs, swap the faulty bulb over with the one on the other side: if the problem swaps sides, buy a new bulb. If the problem persists on the SAME side, check wiring connectors for tightness and corrosion.

If it's HID's, first swap over the ballasts....as above, if the problem swaps sides, it's the ballast, etc.
If it's NOT the ballast, again check connections, finally try swapping the bulbs from side to side to find which, if either, bulb is the problem.

Best of luck.

A poor earth connection would explain both symptoms.....

Have a look for wiring issues or damage/corrosion.

P.S. These LED's are available from BOB'5 on here.... much better spread than cheap ones !

Wow, Duncan, HID sidelights :lol1:

Just out of interest, what wattage are they reckoned to be?

Dunno, but the benefit is the excellent spread around the reflector, unlike the cheap quads.

IMHO
