Hi

My 5dr Turbo started to understeer more than before a while ago which I put down the tyres needing replacement. I've now put another set of wheels/tyres on the car and its still understeering alot more than a few months ago (tested by taking the same corners at the same speed in the same conditions etc!).

My initial thought was that it may be the tracking so I've had it re-aligned (they did say it was out) but its still behaving the same.

Any ideas on what it could be and how to check it?

Thanks

Richard

What size and type of wheel / tyre are you using? My old MY00 on the standard (16")Bridgestone RE010s understeered badly. Swapping to 17" Raceline alloys fitted with SO2 PPs transformed the car.

Also consider taking a trip to Powerstation and having the Bumpsteer modification done.

Hi Chris

I was originally running on the standard 15" wheels/tyres when I noticed the increase in oversteer. I put this down to the tyres being worn.

I then bought a set of later 16" wheels/tyres (with decent tread!) and the problem still remains and has actually got worse recently which makes me think something needs adjusting/replacing.

Any ideas what to look for and check is appreciated :-)

I had the same problem. I took my car to a Subaru dealer and had a full geometry check done as well as replacing the crappy Falken tyres the previous owner had put on the front with some Pirelli P-Zeros. This has sorted the problem completely.

Cheers,

"...understeering alot more than a few months ago."

I'm sorry to say that you are experiencing the on set of Winter. Winter effects many aspects of Subaru ownership and the symptoms are well known.
Common problems are shaking hands, usually in the morning, this is put down to the cold and need for another fix. Understeer, as you report, is another problem, resolved only through a cross channel ticket and several hours of pressing your right foot into the carpet. In some cases this symptom does also pass if given time.
On the up side some Winter sufferers report higher levels of fun through a decrease in charge temperature.

Its funny but I've noticed that when I have my windscreen wipers on to clear the rain, that the car seems to understeer more - where is the mechanical linkage between them as I can't seem to find it. I also have a problem seeing when it start to get dark, the "bright" button doesn't seem to illuminate the road ;-)

Seriously though, does anyone know of any checks I can do???

I may have to ask a local Scooby driver if I can borrow his wheels fitted with Toyo's/S02/3's to see if it makes a difference...

Richard,

Good call:D LOL Bright button - that's thebest I've heard yet! Definately worth trying some one elses car but better would be to try to it (presuming it's better) then swap the wheels to yours and see if it's tyres or car...

The other option is to call in on your local specialist, Scoobysport, Power Engineering, TSL or the like and enlist their help. Good luck.

I had the Prodrive settings done by my local Subaru Dealer. This has reduced the understeer on my MY00 4dr.

When you say you had the alignment done, was that at a dealer ? Did you have the Pro-drive cambers done ? Make a world of difference.

Cheers Phill C

PS Have you got Bridgestone RE010 ? Bridgestone SO3 PP are much much better.
