How strong are the 6 speeds

Just wondering what sort of power can these take
would one with a dccd not handle as much
sorry for all the gearbox questions at the min just need too get everything striaight in my head

Bikebloke 10 July 2009 07:24 PM

Very strong is the answer mate. Some even say it's stronger than the ppg. I think Dynamix is running close to 600bhp on his Hawkeye o/e std 6 speed dccd. Hope that helps. N :thumb: p.s it's a heavy box though.

dazdavies 10 July 2009 08:00 PM

6 Speed over a PPG everytime.

Lots of documented PPG breakages, not many 6 speeds going bang on big power cars.

The only problems you see with 6 speeds are worn synchros. I'm soon to be using one on my 550-600bhp build.

neil.p1 10 July 2009 08:08 PM

Cheers guys wonder what is the highest bhp on a six speed. What about drag days. Every day I will be pushing about 600bhp but my race fuel map is 680. What is the best dog box kit I have a ppg in my 5 speed and I am not impressed with it

Fat Boy 10 July 2009 11:09 PM

800bhp in Gobstopper...705 bhp in the Zen car... they'll handle whatever you want

dazdavies 10 July 2009 11:25 PM

You also have Modena and Hollinger gearsets but they are PROPER money.

Stick with a six speed if you drive it right you won't have any problems.

neil.p1 10 July 2009 11:52 PM

are you better going wuth a boix with or without dccd. if you went with dccd how strong is it can you buy uprated diffs for the dccd.
cheers guys really appreaciate it hard to find good info

dazdavies 11 July 2009 09:52 AM

Depends what you're using the car for but the DCCD is no weaker than the non DCCD Box. For drag work I'd say the DCCD box is the best choice as you'll be able to reduce front wheel spin on launch and put more power to the back wheels where there is the most grip. Then once you've got the launch done you can lock the diff and put power evenly to all four wheels.

neil.p1 11 July 2009 10:30 AM

That is the answer I need is it possable too get uprated dccd's. And is the dccd pro any good for ajusting it. Running 680 bhp on race fuel and will mainly be draging it

dazdavies 11 July 2009 12:42 PM

Either DCCD pro or a Neetronics

Fat Boy 11 July 2009 08:52 PM

dccds allegedly don't break in general even at big power, but driveshafts will unless you get the GKN jobbies

stevebt 11 July 2009 09:11 PM

I run a 6 speed jap box and the lateral car runs the same! How much power are you planing on running??? Steven darley broke 3/4 ppg gearboxes and now runs a 6 speed with no problems :D

neil.p1 11 July 2009 10:12 PM

running about 680 bhp. just trying to find as much info as possiable before i make the purchase what do you find your ratios like

dazdavies 11 July 2009 10:47 PM

What's the rest of your spec?

What turbo you running?

neil.p1 11 July 2009 11:22 PM

You do realise a gt35 doesn't flow anywhere near 680bhp !!!!! Its nice to imagine :D

I have just noticed the graph, race fuel and 2.5bar ??? I still doubt that ?? What housing are you using ??? I have a .63 housing running 2.2 bar of boost on meths and its still only 551b hp. I neve ever imagined my turbo to be a 680bhp turbo????

neil.p1 12 July 2009 12:00 AM

109 ron race fuel yes it does

neil.p1 12 July 2009 12:01 AM

So before you start commenting get your facts right

I have ;) I still don't believe a gt35 can make 680bhp and I have one :D

neil.p1 12 July 2009 12:11 AM

Well that's what I got who maps your car gt 35 is capable of near 600 bhp on oridinary

stevebt 12 July 2009 12:15 AM

paul blamire mapped it and it runs 2.2 bar mid and 1.9bar to the redline and 10% meths

neil.p1 12 July 2009 12:31 AM

never heard of him.
check this link roger clark website tells you what the gt turbos are capable of

Well its Zen performance then ??? I'm hapy you made a cracking figure and I bet your car is really good but I can't believe a gt35 even on a 1.06 housing and race fuel can make 680bhp??? In fact steven darleys car on gt35/42 with a 1.06 housing didn't even make 600bhp and thats on 10% meths as well :D

Sounds a bit like jealousy mate just because yours can't/doesn't make that power. Link above from roger clarke shows official figures. Are you disputing those claims?

Nothing to do with jealousy its the turbo can't do it !! Just cause you come in and say crap doesn't make it so ;) If the turbo could do 680bhp others would use the turbo for bigger power. I know a few people who run a gt35 and not one is over 600bhp ;) If you are speaking from experience commnet ??? If not :D Oh and RCM has bollox all to do with ggarret turbo's they just sell them ;)

neil.p1 12 July 2009 01:08 AM

but then your saying there false advertising I don't care what you think of my car I know it made this and that's all that matters and if it would really settle your head ring the number on the dyno print out and ask them

Scoobygirl_Lisa 12 July 2009 01:10 AM

I actually use the same mappers as neil.p1 and so know exactly what mods are on the car and I was also there when it was being mapped, lol, so I'm not talking crap. In fact, you're the one talking crap when you are disputing official figures from roger clarke. What would they gain by false advertising?

If you don't believe the car is runing at that power then thats fine. I still think jealousy may be the reason for your 'disbelief'. The dyno is shown above. Are you suggesting that this is a 'make-believe' car? :rolleyes:Why exactly would someone be asking advice on a public forum if the car doesn't exist? :wonder:

redwards 12 July 2009 11:20 AM

I'm not siding with anyone but can see Stevebt's point. Take a look on the web and garrett state that the GT35 is good for 400-600 TurboByGarrett.com - Catalog
I'm not disputing that you can get 680 from the setup you have, but you may be pushing the gt35 to it's limit. Do you know if it's a hybrid?

dazdavies 12 July 2009 12:15 PM

Let us know who your mapper is then. Because whoever they are has got better results from that turbo than ANY UK tuner RCMS Included!!!!!

BS power figures aside. What gearbox have you been using upto now?
