Ah s**t!

Coming home from work today coming out of town and i get a mondeo fly right up the back of me and then sit an inch off my rear,The car in front of me turns right and the road ahead is clear and mr mondeo still stuck to my bumper so i think shall i?And decide to give it a quick blip of the throttle just as i do some chaps in high vis coats run from a layby and point to tell me to turn in to the road opposite them!I actually thought they were work men at first :cuckoo:
But yes it seems in the brief couple of seconds i blipped the throttle they got me with the speed gun-Doh!
As it was coming out of town just before the main road it was still a 30 limit and i was doing 54 :nono:They were fine with me but i ve got to wait and see what i get as it s not a normal speed camera area apparently it has to be assesed at head office and then decided what your fate is.I drive that road to and from work every day and never has there been any kind of police speed check area before, just my luck the minute i decide to be a prat i get caught doing so,hopefully just 3 points and a fine but i m just hoping they don t opt for 6 or anything more severe as i was quite a bit over, and i was only telling some one how i d still got a clean licence

matttp1 08 July 2009 07:17 PM

I got done at 55 in a 30, 14 years ago, in a 950 fiesta i was told then that another 1 mph and i wouldve been going to court for a possible ban not sure if its still the same:thumb:

bioforger 08 July 2009 07:18 PM

Sorry mate but if they do prosecute you will be getting a summons to court as you were 24mph over. Also the limit in a 30 for a NIP is 50mph. Good job your license is pretty clean :( Have a look here at some guidelines for what to expect, although it does depend on the magistrate/court, you might get lucky you never know, good luck.

Speeding fines

kingchrissyp 08 July 2009 07:27 PM

Yeah i d had a bit of a look at the guidelines to see,the copper did say that if you got a court summons you don t actually have to attend?I m not quite sure how it works so anyone with any info?
He also said that if they got quite a few there s a chance you won t even here any more about it,but the chances of me being that lucky are slim!
I suppose i ll have to just wait and see.

147scoob 08 July 2009 07:33 PM

Thats a guttrer, i got done at 46 in a 30 about 8 years ago in a beat up old escort van, and even that went to court! Scum bags waited 5months and 2 weeks to send the summons so that basically meant 6 months longer with the points pending and then actually on my licence!!
Like you say hopefully you'll get lucky!!

I went through it a few years ago for 66 in a 40. It's best to attend court to be honest and try and plead your case to avoid a ban. You're probably looking at 6 points n a large fine, but some magistrates will just ban you for probably 7-14 days. I went to court pleaded it would cause me major inconvenience, job would be affected etc etc if I was banned for 6-12months, so they banned me for 2 weeks plus a big fine, but no points. Your income is also taken into consideration. Don't worry about it too much jus fill in the form, turn up, take the punishment n mark it down to experience. And btw court is just a small room with some people behind aload of desks, its not like the old bailey or anything ;)

Foofighter 08 July 2009 07:47 PM

I dont know if this will work now,you might be too late, but apparently if you ask the copper too see the calibration certificate for the hand gun and they can't produce it then they haven't got a leg to stand on.My ex boss done it and got off totally.

stingzor 08 July 2009 10:57 PM

Speeder, speeder, spawn of satan. If you lose your licence for 50 years it wont be enough!
Speed limits are there for yours and everyone else safety, imagine if you had run over a child... excuse me officer i only blipped the throttle momentarily, i was only doing 54, how was i to know i'd kill someone?

Seriously, i have no sympathy.

gallois 08 July 2009 11:06 PM

now you're in trouble, stingzor has no sympathy.

Martin typeR 08 July 2009 11:52 PM

I got caught doing the exact same speed as you in a 30 zone, i got 3 points and 60 pound fine, i was expecting more.

That's a bit harsh mate, are you telling me that you have never broke the speed limit :Suspiciou

Dont believe that works, as even if they dont have a copy on them there will be a copy of it where it was calibrated.
If it works it'll be because the officers know that its not calibrated and let you off rather than admit that to you.

Cant say 100% for sure as I've never tried it first hand, however I was served with the calibration certificate during court once so I know its on file when they calibrate it.
Police are getting more strict with their processes due to people getting off with things like that i'm guessing.

You need to chill out. You were the one that broke the law, these 'scum bags' were doing their job and were within guidelines/timescale for the summons/NIP to be sent.

As for the OP, it could go to court but probably unlikely. If it were maybe use the Mondeo driving dangerously as mitigating circumstances..?

If you need a good motoring lawyer drop me a PM.

That's really unlucky, but the court will not believe that it was just that one moment you were willing to do 54 in a 30. They will assume that it is a regualr event. 6 points and a big fine would be my guess?

And i so wanted your sympathy you prat!
As mentioned we all do it from time to time and i was unlucky and got caught,i drive that road every day and 9 times out of 10 i m doing the exact speed limit, and as for running kids over there are no houses either side of the road and it s a 30 that then joins a 70 mph bypass!
It wasn t as if i was the only one as they were literally pulling in every other car as it s just an area where you don t expect it and people generally drive around the 40 mark.

Unlikely to goto court? How come? The ACPO guideline for summons in a 30 is 50mph.

stingzor you need to cut him some slack. :hjtwofing

I'm not saying its good to speed, but it does happen to the best of us at times.

Cheers mate :thumb:
As i said the whole thing of putting my toe down because of the ass whole on my tail is a very childish thing to do and usually refrain from doing so,but sadly in this case gave in to temptation and it s cost me!
Just have to learn from my mistake i guess,i d gone 8 years without any points hope i can manage at least another 8 without any more :)

chrisdicko 10 July 2009 12:12 AM

I got caught doing 52 in a 30 zone a couple years ago (thought it was a faster road, but my own fault).

Got a court summons, but pleaded guilty via post, and got 3 points and a £60 fine.

t7srt 10 July 2009 09:43 AM

I lost my licence a few years ago for doing 107mph on the M25, It took 18months to summons me so thought i had got away with it,
My only advice to you if it goes to court is to look smart, A suit maybe, be polite and not too much bum licking,
I was the same as Bioforger, Got a 14 day ban, hefty fine and no points, Thought my insurance was going to shoot up but as their computers will only imput bans in months, they would be lying by putting 1 month down, My insurance never went up and was left without points, So for me, other than the big fine it could of been worse to get 6 points.

It happens to the best of us mate, its not as if your saying the coppers are ass holes, you know what you done wrong and will accept the punishment,

Good luck mate

kingchrissyp 10 July 2009 11:33 AM

If i get a court summons what do you recomend, just dealing with it by post or would it make any difference if i attend court? As the copper who talked to me said just to send it off via post?

chrisdicko 10 July 2009 12:20 PM

I imagine it will be just 3 points, so just do it by post (IMO).

You could always phone a solicitor and get some advice, as most give you 30mins free.

kingchrissyp 10 July 2009 12:30 PM

The other thing i might try is that i m a postie and in the union, and i m pretty sure they offer legal advice,i ll ask tomorrow when i see the union rep.

robstaSTI 10 July 2009 12:44 PM

Alritey pal. Dont worry too much about it, it can happen to anyone matey. And when sum asshole's sittin on ur bumper goading u its hard not to give in and just put ur foot down. As for court If your really worried about it maybe you should go, smartly dressed and try and plead your case that you need your license for work being a postie and also see If you could maybe take a union rep with you too bud, I got dun doin 52mph in a 30 mph zone in 2004 and got off with 3 points and a £30 fine, just ur luck I suppose. Good luck buddy. ;)

chrisdicko 10 July 2009 01:01 PM

Hopefully they might offer some form of 'rehabilitation course' if they are running them. They have in Yorkshire before (it's down to the police force). You attend this, and thats it, no points or fine.

kingchrissyp 10 July 2009 03:50 PM

Cheers for all the help guys i ll let you know what the outcome is as soon as i do :(
