Left foot brake
 

Hi can anyone tell me if they use this technique on tarmac

never tried it since..

Ill stick to heel toe... cant get used to left foot brake... as above, nearly gave myself wiplash

I use it on tarmac, it's really key especially if it's wet tarmac and it's super slippy out. It's more used for situations that require lots of correction and modulation for the brakes.

Also, If your running a full dogbox gearset you can downshift without needing to use the clutch, in which case you can always left foot brake.

It's takes time to get used to modulating the brakes with the foot that's used to only being used for pressing the clutch lol.... But you'll get it after a bit, and find many situations even on tarmac where it is usefull.

often tried it while 'driving' on gravel or mud, sometimes the result was okay
don't try this in a Volkswagen, there you don't need much force to stop the car lol

I got whiplash and a sore head the first few weeks of trying it, but eventually got used to it. I still race karts from time to time when I am home, so using my left foot for the braking eventually became normal-ish.

Its one of these things that requires a quiet road and alot of patience, its alot harder than hell-toe IMO.

I use my left foot all the time on the road. Started making myself do it when I was about 17/18 and it was second nature about a year later. Much quicker on a section of road/track where you don't need to change gear too much.

Also, Imprezas tend to understeer going into corners and if you have your left foot over the brake you can just give it a quick dab to transfer the weight to the front, then get back on the power straight away. Much better being able to brake and accelerate exactly when you feel you need to rather than having to move one foot about.

lots of good advice thanks , at loton park i think i have about a second to a second and a half to find, having to push very hard and making a few mistakes as vid below shows it starts with me on the grass lol . YouTube - shonner2008's Channel
