2.5 WRX PPP Remapping?
Is it worth getting a WRX PPP remapped? What gains can it give? Cheers
|
I was advised on my 2.0 WRX that it would improve driveability and turbo spool in conjunction with a decat up pipe and sportcat down pipe, but a couple of tuners advised me that it would give only small gains and a VF35 and sti pinks is the way to go, as the TD04 is pretty much maxed out at 280bhp and that a jump from 265bhp of the ppp to 270-280bhp would not really be noticed when compared to the outlay to achieve it.

I had my WRX PPP (2.0) remapped together with a Milltek decat and Walbro fuel pump. The difference is huge. PPP cars ,(in my experience of 3 of them) rarely make the 265 bhp. It is a safe upgrade until the car is out of warranty. Once the warranty is up, you can get it properly done

could be more worth while to add a sti tmic and a few other little bits to give you a little more if your paying for a re map

You should be around 280bhp and 340lb once mapped gibve or take a bit depending on exhaust mods etc.. along with of course better mpg, throttle reponse and it should drive smoother. Simon |
BHP should be 266. 310 ib/ft torque.
Dont want to do any exhaust mods. happy with the prodrive exhaust. Just wondering what benefit i would get from a remap. How much does one cost? |
improved throttle reponse, mpg, and small amount more power and around 340lb torque

Isnt this whats causing issues with the 2.5l engines? More power, improved MPG comes at a cost and those 2.5 engines arent exactly robust.

The engine has weak pistons. With a remap it is possible to reduce the risk if you know how. Simon |
I think £660 quid is a LOT of money for such a small improvement, ok it may be better to drive and ever so slightly better on fuel, but how much are you actually going to be using that small gain, it's already quick enough of the lights and up to 80mph so it will only be out on a country road when overtaking that you'll notice an improvement and it's not exactly a huge one.
If your going to shell out that much cash you want to be looking at a turbo upgrade to make it worth while and really noticeable, TD05 18G would be my choice as a cheap turbo on a 2.5 which would put you around 330bhp and 380flb and only cost another £200 on top, there is of course open source mapping too, which could net you the same gain for around £550 inc turbo, but that said I'd pay the extra for JGM to do it.;) But to be completely honest it's a roll of the dice that I wouldn't take because you may well find yourself having to fork out another £3k very soon after because of the "chocolate" 2.5 issues, I know the WRX seems to suffer less but I doubt very much that would be the case at this level of power. But hey it's not my car or money, so it's up to you.:D |
