Ford : 2006 06 Ford Focus ST-3 Performance Blue

Dream Weaver 24 June 2009 10:13 AM

Blimey, why selling?

Could do with your wheels, shame you aren't a bit closer. :D

ScoobyJawa 24 June 2009 11:03 AM

Its currently sat on the drive unused mate and could use the money tied up in it elsewhere so time to go :( Looking to buy a cheapo Leon Cupra to run around in!

The wheels are nice, and sooooooooooo easy to clean :D as you say, shame your so far away :(

just get yours painted Simon

I'm in the process of doing mine anthracite at the moment... :thumb:

Dream Weaver 25 June 2009 10:04 AM

I know, just don't have much time these days to do them.

My passenger side wheels are mint, but both drivers side are scuffed all the way round after some dickhead women in a Corsa decided she would overtake the car in front of her just as I was going past both of them up Barden Lane. :(

I may try refurbing them myself.

Rich D 25 June 2009 07:59 PM

I'm ok as I have 3 cars at my disposal, plus spare wheels for the Datsun, so can take my time doing them

bl00dy women! :brickwall

ScoobyJawa 26 June 2009 06:55 PM

Mine are powder coated not painted, I don't think I could do that at home, only paint them, and then the finish would be no where near as good.....

Rich D 26 June 2009 09:16 PM

you can get a surprisingly good finish with paint from a can, not as tough as powedercoating, but neither will stand up to being kerbed

done other wheels myself in the past with good results, takes time though

once they're done I'll get some pics up

ScoobyJawa 27 June 2009 10:25 AM

Good luck :D :thumb:

they are painted in Ford graphite grey, they look darker than they actually are due to the fact that it was going dark

the light was fading and they were taken on my phone, so not the best pics, but you get the idea :D

ScoobyJawa 04 August 2009 11:11 AM

Damn good mate - well done!! :D Makes me miss my old S14a :(

StickyMicky 04 August 2009 11:33 AM

How does the ST-3 compare with the old Focus RS (ie the old one, not the new one)

stiscooby 04 August 2009 01:33 PM

Considering changing the scoob for something a little bit more comfy and one of these are on my 'possible' list....

What are they like on the old jungle juice, from looking around some people say they aren't much better than the scoob? (my scoob does between 230 - 300ish miles to a tank).

cheers

ScoobyJawa 04 August 2009 09:49 PM

ST vs old RS - not much in it except the ST is more modern and goes round the 'ring quicker!

One thing I will say is I went to a lightly fettled Leon Cupra (not the R) after the ST and had a run in with an MK1 RS and while he was keeping up no probs, getting passed wasn't as easy as he hoped. Pulled up next to me at the lights with a shocked look on his face and his thumb up :) My ST is/was way faster than my Cupra!

As for comfy, big time, seats are the best I've sat in and comfy, a little high but you get used to it. A Chipped ST will see around 23mpg driven like its supposed to be, but on a run I'd regularly see 27-28mpg or 30+ keeping to around 80. I normally had to fill up around the 260-270 mark. To be honest a non chipped one isn't much more frugal either! Its the only real weak link in the car. And its 1 below the 225 tax limit at 224! :D

stiscooby 04 August 2009 10:40 PM

ScoobyJawa - Thanks for the info, I might have to pop along to my local Ford dealer for a closer look/test drive ;) It's probably the only thing putting me off one if these is the petrol, not much of an improvement over the Scoob but then again I only do around 100 miles a week.

Another car on my list is a 330 Ci M Sport, which are better still on fuel and probably comfort/build quality too, finding it hard to better the beemer at the moment on all counts.

Oh, just one more question if I may, whats servicing like with the ST (price/mileage schedule)?

Ta ;)

really pleased with how they came out

suspension looks high in those pics as it's been sat in the air on axle stands for about a month, so it needs to settle again, going to the ring in it in just over 2 weeks :luxhello:

ScoobyJawa 05 August 2009 05:55 PM

Have fun - took mine to the ring a few years back great fun but came home with a few scrapes!! oops :(

sti - 330 is a nice car, if its anything like my old Z4 3.0i it will only just do better economy. I averaged 27mpg on that, 30-32 on a run (albeit at a little more than 80lph ;)).

Re servicing - a damn huge amount cheaper than the beemer! Labour rates at ford are 2/3 of what bm are. But its every year or 12000 miles IIRC. Big one can be around £300 up to £400 if unlucky (like you need brakes too or something) like most cars but normal ones are £150-200 tops.....

stiscooby 05 August 2009 06:53 PM

ScoobyJawa - Thanks for the info. I will have to see about booking some test drives :)

ScoobyJawa 05 August 2009 09:07 PM

No worries :)

theboy 06 August 2009 01:00 PM
