Anyone Else Using Haywood & Scott Twisted Turbo Set Up?
Hi All,
I'm looking into get a twisted turbo up pipe and down pipe from Haywood and Scott. The chap said to me that he has never tested the up pipe but has sold plenty of them and none have been return so he assumes they have all fit perfectly. Just wondered if anyone out that can come that? Also, were any mods requried to fit them? |
they do not fit perfectly!

I did look at the RCM twisted turbo set up, but at £900 for the up and down pipe which needs to be used with their exhaust manifold and centre section, it a little out of my price range, especially as the Scooby Sport equal lengh headers I've alreayd got are fine.
I just want the up and down pipe. |
I think you can keep your current headers/exhaust and use them with the RCM kit - double check with them.
I've looked into this and the comments have mainly been that the H&S (from Subaru4u) isn't a good fit and requires modification. The RCM kit it top draw and although you pay for it, it is worth it. If you're considering rotated, remember to consider oil and water feeds, fmic pipe modification, 1 or 2 external wastegates, location of header tank... Plus a few other bits that I'm sure someone who has done it can shed some light. Unfortunately not as simple as just getting the up and down pipes. |
As above H&S kit often needs tweeking to fit snug, if your local i would sugest you have the kit fitted by them. H&S is also a 2 bolt up pipe unless specified.

S206 turbo? 500 bhp plus on a stock up pipe system ..

I know its possible to get good power from standard up and down pipe set up, but I'm think not only about fitting a big turbo but about the air flow too. On a V2 the set up from the turbo is poor and is so easily improved, twisting the turbo is just part of the big picture.
I was set on get a H&S set but not sure now. I can't afford the RCM versions, I appreicate they may be worth it but for how far I want to go with my car it would be a waste of money. The H&S is only £470ish, less than half price. |

However, IMHO if you can't afford to stretch to the RCM kit, then you can't afford to stretch to rotated as there is so much more involved that just the up/downpipes. |
Are you going to run a full on rotated turbo such as a GT30/35R or a standard turbo in a rotated position?

Jiff then the RCM kit wont fit as that has flanges for rotated Garret turbos and not standard position turbos. Simon (JGM) has recently used the rotated up and down pipes from subaru4u, drop him a pm and query how good the fit is.

What exactly needs doing to the H&S kit to make it fit?
I'm presuming it will be well constructed, as the bell mouth down pipe I'm currently using from them was a perfect fit and was very well made. I can't see why the twisted turbo kit would be bad. |

Banny So what other kits out there do people recommend? I only know of the H&S kit. I'll drop Simon a PM now re the Subaru4u kit. |
The Subaru4u Kit was made working with H&S, which to me means it is a H&S kit and sold by Subaru4u. The only difference is it is ceramic coated.

I thought all this trouble was for a proper turbo!

I just swapped my Meercat downpipe for the H&S twisted set up as the intake pipe going onto the 3 inch inlet of the MD321T+ is getting a bit squashed by my inlet manifold, any fitting issues should hopefully be negated as im going to get a custom exhaust place to fit and modify as my headers are 3 bolt type and the up pipe I got is of the 2 bolt type (and all nicely ceramic coated too), also as the system was designed for the classic and mine is going on a newage I will need the pipework at the back end of the downpipe lengthened.
Just need to wait untill I can afford the Solaris and the frontmount / inlet manifold combo I am looking at so I will be on low boost and stealth mode for a little while as the standard exhaust is back on the car. Graeme |

Have said rotated up and downpipe with md321v fitted.
Quality of welding is good, fitment fine, you need to make your own bracket for the turbo so you can position the downpipe and turbo depending on its size etc. Mine is all ceramic coated and the uppipe slip joint has only coloured the ceramic slightly as has my header slip joints which are different make. Ie. It is fine. They do 2 and 3bolt flange fitment, 2.5 inch downpipe or 3inch, ceramic coated or not I believe. Will post pic later Simon |

I think I'm gonna give the H&S kit a go. I shall let you all know how it turns out.

Good thread, will be watching this one as I'm looking to do the same thing with mine
|
How did the fitting go? Any updates?
cheers, Dave:thumb: |
mapped a newage sti using this setup again fitted by Subaru4you, Subaru Performance Specialists, Upgrades & Subaru Servicing and was very impressive..

Simon, I have been looking at these from Subaru 4 You.
Can you explain the advantages? E.g. differences between standard fitment to this twisted setup? Are there any gains in spool, power, torque etc? cheers, Dave :thumb: |
Shame they dont make a set of proper rotated pipes for that money.

Simon And I'm collecting her tomorrow morning :) :) Can't wait. Gave the car up so Subaru4You could do the development work for the Newage, as this would be the first newage running a twisted setup with a standard position turbo. Roll on tomorrow :) :) |
