ford puma engine

hi all, im goin to be gettin a 1.7 puma engine for a race car. i need some advice on tuning it up. dont really want to bore it to a bigger cc. can i gain more power in changin the length of the rods? will this change the compression of it? there will be a steel crank and rods goin into the engine. any other advice of anythin else i can do to the engine without spendin a fortune. also wots the difference in the racin puma engine to the standard 1?

i dont think they are paticulary tunable, just over 120bhp as standard, built by yamaha i believe.Seeing as the racing puma only had 150bhp,i expect you have to spend quite a bit to get decent power out of it...
