Hi

No doubt been asked many times, but what is the best oil for an Sti4? Not doing any track days, but like to rev from time to time....

Cheers

Mike

10w 50 will do..Or 10w 60..

mutant_matt 05 March 2002 05:35 PM

Well, from people I've spoken to on and off the board the three main choices seem to be:

1. Motul 300V 15w-50
2. Redline 10w-40 or 20w-60
3. Castrol RS 10w-60

Matt :)

Cheers boys

And where can I get these fine fluids at a decent price then?

Steve Richards 05 March 2002 10:27 PM

I was recommended to use Shell Helix Plus 10W-40. It is not only good but readily available.

Scooby370beast 05 March 2002 10:29 PM

10w 40 i wouldnt recommend it for turbocharged cars.40 is the highest temperature they would bear until they start getting thinner.50 or 60 is the best..Cause as we know turbocharged cars develop higher temperatures than atmospheric engines..

I've got 15w 50 mobil is quite good.Quite thick and doesn't get burnt that much..(with 10 60 i used b4) i had to top up more often..

Kostas,

10w 40 i wouldnt recommend it for turbocharged cars
So why is this what Subaru recommend then?

Subaru recommend 5w-30 for extreme cold conditions but not for "sustained high speed driving" and 10w-30/10w-40 for "normal" driving and 10w-50, 20w-40 and 20w-50 for "severe driving conditions".

I've spoken to Demon Tweeks who put me in touch with their Petrol-Chemist and he recommends Redline over Motul over everything thing else (he says they use the best base stocks and then he lost me a little bit... :D )

I've gone for Redline Fully Synthetic 10w-40 (and Pat recommeded Redline too so it can't be *that* bad ;) ). Trouble is, it's pretty expensive (but I'd rather that than risk damaging my engine) so does anybody know where else you can get Redline (and possibly Motul 300V Comp) from at a good price?

Matt :)

Andrew Timmins 06 March 2002 11:20 PM

I pay about £28 for 4 litres of Motul 300V from Aldon Automotive at Brierly Hill Nr Dudley. So that's about £5 less than Mobil 1 from Halfords.

Mike Tuckwood 07 March 2002 01:16 PM

Andrew, that works out at £7.00 per litre, we sell Motul 300V @ £6.50 per litre (5 litres, £32.00).

Mike.

Mike,

Presumably that's 300V Comp? If so, seems like a very good price....

Matt :)
