How do give your no longer needed kids stuff to childrens charities?

Instead of giving it to the local charity shop how can you give kids toys/clothes/cots etc directly to children's charities? I'd rather give our baby stuff directly to a charity that will give it to kids/babies that need it rather than a charity shop where the local chav teenage 'parents' will pick it up for peanuts. Apart from NSPCC and Barnados I don't really know who else to contact?

Do what I used to do, either ring the local council and ask if someone from the battered wives' home could pick it up, or ask around local schools/playgroups/nurseries.

Primaries always have a need for decent clean clothes, either for accidents, or to give to those families less well off.
