Thats only one of the options, a vehicle electrician will be more precise, but it could be the wiring loom thats at fault, it could be a solenoid, it could be the main control unit....
Your definately best finding an auto electrician who can fault find on your car, if not it may cost you much more than just buying part after part :(

ok thanks for the info. the drivers door does make a clunking noise when using the key

also the local car electronics want £80+ to just look at it, dont know if that's an ok price, but cant afford it for them to just look and tell me the problem.

does anyone know a decent person in surrey?

£80 quid+ rip off
Most alarm fitters will be able to tell you whats wrong :) probably a damn sight cheaper as well :D

take the door panel off, this involves taking the screw out of the door closing handle, taking the handle out, removing the trim around the upper door opening handle and pulling the door card off, catching the clip on the front of the door when it flies off....
the panel pulls out from the bottom and hooks over the top. you will also need to disconnect the wiring to the window switches...

...then find the motor in the door, loosen the clip that holds the rod on the motor and see which way the rods move, hold the bars together and move them both in the direction that they move(you may need to click the door catch shut). if the motor rod will move more than the orig one, find the point that they are both in the middle of their stroke and tighten up the clamp, open the door catch if you had to close it, shut the door and check it, if it's good, put the door panel back on, if not, replace the motor

Shouldn't take more than 15 mins :thumb:

sounds like the motor in the drivers door is either... needing replaced or needing adjusted..

i would go with the later..

tried, but no joy.....it does lock every time now, but still won't unlock via remote.

there is a red and a black wire coming from the door lock but they have been cut, then there is a solenoid thinginy with a few wires, is this normal?
