Changing turbo on version 2 wagon..

Right, as far as I know the 2000 turbo wagons came with a TD04 and the saloons a TD05 is this right?

If so I wondered what was involved in fitting the turbo from a saloon to a wagon? just a case of turbo swap and different ecu? Or more to it than that?

Any help would be great.

Cheers.

I have a version 2 Wagon, it came standard with a TD05. I thought the version 1/2/3 etc was only a STI thing? Could be wrong.

will_wrx 23 June 2009 12:50 AM

Your probably right with the STi thing?! I'm not too sure. Should have really put what model I have..

I have a 1995 2000 turbo wagon. As far as I've been told, I have a TD04? Or am I wrong?

Thanksss :)

all uk pre facelift wagons were tdo5, all prefacelift wagons were tdo4 with the exception of the sti wagon which had the td05 as salooon.

will_wrx 23 June 2009 10:52 AM

Ahh right, I didnt know this..

So it "should" be running a TD05?

Is the Wagon mapped to boost differently to the Saloon?

As my Wagon seems to pick up quite slowly compared to my old 98 Turbo 2000.

The old 98 had a tdo4, your uk 95 wagon has a td05, hence why it picks up later

will_wrx 23 June 2009 12:51 PM

Ahhh right, I didnt know this either, thanks very much.

Feel a bit stupid now, Lol.

Do you have any idea what power the car makes standard?

:)

Now im confused.
My 1995 wrx Wagon has a TD04 turbo
Why would a UK car of the same year have the bigger turbo? I thought generally the JDM cars had more power as standard

'Inconsistent' I know - but that's the way Subaru did it.

The MY94-96 UK wagons, still only produced 208bhp (211PS) despite their bigger TD05H

For comparison the MY93-96 JDM WRX Wagons produce 217bhp (220PS) on their smaller TD04L.

What ECU do the UK cars run then? And are they easier to tune up?
Im asking as I have a TD05 for mine and cant decide whether or not to fit it

DCurtis12 23 June 2009 04:42 PM

so i own a 2001 bugeye wagon what turbo would that have on it ?

If you wanted to fit a TD05, then the cheapest way to get suitable 'safe' fuelling/ign/boost is to get hold of a 2nd hand MY93-96 4-plug ECU with a Polar Performance generic chip/board already pre-installed into it. With a decat; new plugs (preferably one level colder NGK PFR7B); Walbro fuel pump; fresh OEM or Green/A'PEXi/K&N panel air filter, the 1.1bar boost the chip is mapped at will give you up to 280bhp... A bit better than 217bhp, eh? :norty: Chip is designed around 'only' Esso Supreme 97 RON - so any 97 or V-Power/Tesco 99 will be fine.

Should be able to pick said ECU up for £80 or less these days...

yes you can chnage to a td05 so long as you fit a z4, w6, u8, 2c ecu or as above chip your ecu with something like a polar chip. i did this to mine with no problems.
The wagons do run a different comp ratio to the saloons but it runs ok with the saloon ecu with no det or fueling issues.
