intercooler pipe keeps blowing off!!
as above i stuck on harveys ported headers and matched up pipe and what a diffrence lol but my left side fmic pipe keeps blowing off at the join where it goes through the wing and its pi**ing me off lol do i just need more clamps round wrenched as tight as i can get??? mikalor ones

I have heard that a bit of hair spray on it and tighten the clamp up can do the trick.

What about using threebond 1215 on the little blighter, together with those heavy duty nut & bolt-style 'jubillee' clamps?!

a bit of hairspray or threebond on the inside of the joint hose then push pipe back in and tighten up with a big mikalor hose clamp so you think that would do or maybe 2 hose clamps lol

Hair spray! i to had the same problem. Seals it tight and is a right BITCH to take apart once its been on for a while

you could take a more mechanical aproach and get the pipe flared in the end to form a lip to stop the clamp pulling over. I did this with everyone of my fmic joints when the exact same one on mine started doing it, and never had any bother since.:thumb:

its just gonna be trial and error i think ill try hairspray and new clamps first apparently the mikalor clamps only have about 6-10mm tightening on them so i been told from a guy thats selling them find that a bit strange though as you have to wrench them up eh!!

Before you assemble the joint, thoroughly degrease the metal pipes with brake cleaner and wash the silicone in the sink using plenty of detergent - you want both sides totally free of any oil. You then use the hair lacquer as an evaporative lubricant to stop the freshly degreased silicone and metal adhering to each other while you assemble the joint. Once together, tighten the clips as normal and see if it stays put. |
Whilst we're on the subject, what are THE BEST types of clamps used for IC metal/silcone joints, so that they'll never be forced off/split etc.
Is it those Mikalor nut and bolt type or what? Or those basic, but kinder rounded-edged, Jubilee clamps. I'd really like to tie this down before getting a recently purchased Hyperflow FM fitted to me car. [Sorry to the OP for the slight lo-john. Geddit?] |
well i have the standard ones on mine as all the mikalor ones that came with kit were wrong sizes and i think the normal ones are crap cant tighten them up right the edges either round or the slot wears for the screw driver so im hoping the mikalor ones will benefit from not doing this! but what do i know lol

The FMIC kit I won I believe comes with jublilee clips all round. So hopefully I can read off the xx-yy mm size of each clip and use that info to replace them with like-for-like Mikalor ones. if I do that, will they have enough thread on them to get get a good purchase when tightening? Or would I need to get slightly 'oversized' ones to make sure there's enough thread, instead?:wonder: :confused:

never heard of them but i think the mikalor ones dont come with much movement eh im getting three sizes surely one will fit lol

Not cheap for sure - but if they're good enough for the WRC cars... :D :thumb: It gets on my tits when hoses fly off - who remembers that turbo-IC hose on the R5 turbo?!
