OCTANE BOOSTER/FUEL ADDITIVE
 

Im doing a trackday next week in my 1997 wrx imort. Its fairly standard so i was wondering if adding some octane booster would make a difference or cause damage. If they are ok to use which ones would you recomend?:thumb:

NF Octane Boosters

The second one down in that list is the one sold by most specialist. This NF Race Formula raises the fuel octane by proper full octane numbers (and not 'points' - which are only a tenth of an octane number!!!).

So becuse a bottle is rated at 6 full RON, then if you add a 3rd of the bottle to a tankfull of V-Power 99, then you raise the octane by 2 (i.e. a third of 6, LOL), therefore c.101 RON (99 + 2).

But trackdays put the motor under extreme duress, so I'd do as the rally boys do and stick a whole bottle in to a tankfull of V-Power, for c.105 RON!... For the sake of c.£14, can you afford not to?

Dont think it will raise it by 40bhp on his particular car though!? Yours appears to be a bit of an animal.:norty:

Obviously, depending on whether the OP has an adjustable timing-based ECU will depend on whether he'll get any kind of small power gain from the booster (seeing as it won't have been mapped for).... but...

...Moreover, the reason for using it liberally, would be to try to engineer in a bit of headroom against det - essential when you're gunning the motor on the track, and possibly not really concentrating on - and acting on! - in-car gauges, read-outs, warnings... before it's too late!

I didnt meant to upset it, i must apologise! Mine feels quick at around 330bhp, yours must be absolutely mental. I imagine you aim it rather than drive it:lol1::notworthy

Calv i used NOS race formular from Halfords @£20. Lasted me on pembrey and it was 25 degrees.

Poured bottle in empty tank topped up with tesco 99 drove home and diconected battery over night. Blasted the car for a bit and it was great all day.

Use a few litres of E85 or Methanol to a full tank to acheive the same (if not better) results than using NF for free.

Sod paying another £14 to fill the tank up when octane can be increased for nothing.

I would add that more isnt necessarily a good thing on these as octane boosters as they can affect the fueling but you should be fine with a couple of litres in a tank for some added protection on a track day.

Yeah. I can't be doing with the added price/hassle of the stuff, so haven't mapped for it/use it.

It does have some viscosity to it - does this adversely affect the fuel system e.g. clog up injectors over time, for example?...
