passenger side door speaker not working

i have noticed that my passenger side door speaker has stopped working:confused:it might be the wires on the rear has anybody had this happen before:confused:plus i was wanting to know whats the best way of taking the door card off. the car is a 2001 wrx wagon:thumb:

I found a the same problem with mine. The doors are about as waterproof as a paper umbrella, and the connections had corroded. I noticed how bad it was because I changed the speakers and my MDF spacers are now mouldy, but I will get around to sorting it properly next time I upgrade the speakers:Whatever_

It'll be the wiring, either corroded, as the poster above, said, or disconnected.

Door cards are about three screws, one under a cover at the front middle, one under the door pull, one other on newage cars, (DON'T touch the large screw ion the middle of the doorcatch), remove window switches and door opening levers by prising up gently, then it's poppers along the bottom, insert flat screwdriver, move until you encounter a popper, lever up, move to next one etc.

Eventually it will be free, LIFT it verticvaly to disengage at the top, expose speaker, remove speaker and check wiring.

Once you've had one off, it really is easier to do than to describe;)

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, they are crap, get a PAIR of decent ones, they ARE available. Go to Halfords etc, listen until you find one you like the sound of, then buy off the net;)

JonMc 07 June 2009 08:14 PM

Like he says, and it'll be cheaper to replace the set too:D

my_first_scooby 08 June 2009 09:29 PM

I agree upgrade to a new set is the way to go. I have just done it and I am loving it.

If your local you can have the standard speakers I've just taken out

never mind mate, someone has to;)

Seriously, get down to Halfords, find some that sound nice, then look on e-bay, Google, etc and pay around half what Halfords are charging.

My youngest is after some Kenwood 17cm 3-way ones for his Corsa SRi, Halfords want £50, e-bay want £19.99 plus £5 P&P:eek:

Jon MC

I fitted some Lanzars not the best admittley but they are two way components so they have separate tweeters, this is the third car I have had them in they have lasted well the trick is to sound deaden the doors and get rid of as many holes and gaps as you can obviously not blocking any drainage holes. I got 16.5cm up front and 13cm rear cost £250 all in

Scooby Hurky

If you fancy a drive to city centre birmingham or Birmingham Airport to collect you can have em, send me a pm if you want them I will send my number

Agree with the sound deadening.

My Sony 16.5cm fronts are 3-way, as are the Sony 6x9's in the rear, both sets less than £100, delivered;)

Bought Sony as I LIKED the sound best on a blind test

JonMc 09 June 2009 09:40 PM

I need to redo the whole front door thing. My alpine components just seem too light. I need to remake the spacers and waterproof the whole lot a bit better, get some dynamat and tidy up the 6x9s at the rear.

Another for my todo list:Whatever_

my_first_scooby 09 June 2009 10:20 PM

lol the dreaded to do list....mines ever increasing.

Tanya, I think you got a good deal there, how do you find the sony's when I have previously tried them I found them excellent for mid range and tops but I never rated them for bass line, the last time I tried them was about 8 years ago lol

I think my all time favorite was the original infinity kappa, not the same as they used to be though

John

What Alpines you running, I would have thought you got a decent sound from them. before you go buying speakers grab some sound deadening and do your front doors. You should get a nice sound even without an amp.

Tanya is totally right, get down to Halfrauds see whats on offer, find some you like the sound of then buy online

I'm running 1725s, nice and light with a built in crossover, but just seem very tinny. Will do the soundproofing and the spacers before I replace them. Not like it's a big job:whatever_
