Checking folding mirrors prior to fitment..

Purpose: Retro fitting Folding mirrors into a UK classic.

The folding mirrors I bought from Ebay arrived today but I think the passenger side mirror will not fold when wired up.

So before I go and get them painted and then fitted/wired up I want to check they do fold but I`m not sure what 2 wires are for the fold/unfold operation.

Top of the connector block has a Green wire & a black wire in 1 socket, blue/white wire, red wire.

Bottom of the connector block has a brown wire and a grey wire.

Can anyone tell me which 2 wires I can hook up to 12V to test them please.

Many thanks.

Anyone....

I just want to check they both fold in/out.

I don`t have a multimeter and yes I`ve searched and am still searching the threads on here.

Please.......

can you not just pop the old one out and plug it in to test?

Beastra 30 May 2009 02:19 PM

No because my current mirrors are not the folding type.

I`m retro fitting the folding mirrors into my classic.

You could do this a couple of ways:

Pop the interior mirror cover off, I THINK, you can get to the plug (been a while) and plug them in. It doesn't matter that you don't already have folding mirrors. It will become apparent when you the plugs meeting, and the left over wires that don't meet the other end will give you some idea.

or, check here: NorthUrsalia.com: STi Version 6 Power Folding Mirrors

Parsonally, I think that last guide is over kill.

Actually, checking that guide you will need the door cover off for the plug.

OK, I`ve taken off my passenger mirror and fitted the new passenger folding mirror which I suspect is faulty. Taken out the 2 wires for fold and unfold and connected the plug to the cars wiring loom, the electric adjustment works fine so all I would like to do now is find out if it folds/unfolds.

Is it just a case of connecting 1 wire to the possitive and 1 wire to the negative side of the battery and touching each fold/unfold pin in turn??

Any help would be great.

It mite be the two wires are to be connected to the + but not at the same time one the open and one to close

i had a knightmare sorting out one of my electric mirrors,it didnt fold, the little motor had died.

so i bought another mirror off ebay (you cant get the motors seperate, close matches but not exact) removed motor from ebay mirror and installed into the mirror on my car, cool.

where i fell over was i moved the copper strip that acts as the connection for the power, its not wired up like a normal switch, this si what you need to understand, the switch on the dash is of a constant voltage,so even tho the mirror stops when the switch is still pressed down, its a break in the copper strip that makes the mirror stop.

it took me 4 hrs on and off to re-align this strip as its very very fiddly !!!!!!!!!

Edit, basically, the wires are wired up as one wire sets the motor one way,the other wire sets it back the other

good luck.

Cheers for that, looks like I better wait and get the switch first.
