3 Port Boost solenoid or AVCR

looking at pros and cons regarding the above.

Do i get a 3 port boost solenoid mapped to the car (car is already mapped) or the Apexi AVC-R

I know there is a cost difference but bearing in mind the Boost solenoid will need tuners time to map.

Would i need to get the AVCR mapped? I'm not that clued up on them but i know people with them and they've have installed theirs.

Looking for advice really

AVCR is a superb piece of kit. You'll get the best out if it if the car is mapped though.

You're looking at a remap either way but I would certainly go the AVCR route.

3 port boost solenoid just gives finer boost control (over the 2 port) as dictated by the ECU.

The AVCR takes boost control away from the ECU and allows better boost control than the ECU can manage particularly in the lower gears. The AVCR will need setting up for your car.

However the newer ECU's are pretty good in this respect LOL

Most mappers will elect to fit a 3 port anyway so if your can has been mapped it might have been swapped already.

What car / mods have you got ?

Cheers

Hi Shaun

it's a 2002 Bug STi

APS cold air feed, Full decat turbo back, Walbro Fuel pump, EcuTek map.

Hi Brockett,

JGM brought a three port when he mapped mine, but didn't bother fitting it, mine is slightly "lumpy" in it's boost control at the top end in 5th and 6th gears....

An AVCR is £400 + £300 for a re-map - £100 (sell std ecu with Ecutek) = me going up to a simtek ( or Solaris ?) next !

P.P.S. It's not likely to be cost effective just to push your VF35 to much higher boost levels. imho

It looks like you have reached the end of the road with the mods you have....a 3 port might make boost a little smoother but not too noticable.

An AVCR won't be able to get any more boost than your Mapped Denso ECU.

To go any further you need to start changing a lot of things.... :(

On the list: Havrvey ported headers and Up pipe (Once back off holiday)

Turbo, FMIC and Injectors i'm aware of but not yet in the pipeline i would have to see what i get off the 2 pipes and take it from there.

Can't think of anything else

The ported headers will improve turbo efficiency so you will get an earlier spool up and reach target boost earlier in the rev range..... :D

Not sure what a change in up-pipe will do as your Bugeye STi has no pre-cat or EGT sensor and is basically just a pipe LOL If it's ported a little It should also improve efficiency.

You *just* might get boost spikes with the Vf35 but a map tweak should cure that :D
