While you lot were "Doing Brighton"... I was "Doing This"...

Sorry I missed Brighton........ I was a bit too far away to get to both places at the same time.....
I was in the Scoob and I was having lots and lots of fun in the (very) narrow, twisty lanes around this place.....

Stayed at a very nice farmhouse, and found one of Tiny's relatives there!

As the whole place is all about flowers and such stuff, I thought I might as well take a few pictures of them - here are a few that came out OK.
Don't ask me for the names - haven't a clue - I only took the pictures 'cos I liked the colours!

After the day spent at the Eden Project - the following day, popped off to Boscastle (Where they had the massive flash floods in 2004,
which washed away so much of the village (and the cars) down into the harbour and sea).....
This is the Sea/Harbour entrance, so as you can see - it's a bit dangerous!
http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...tEntrance3.jpg

Then also popped off to Tintagel to look at King Arthur's Castle etc.....
not much too see really, but the cliff walks above/around the Castle showed some very dramatic coastlines.

http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g1...ndCliffs25.jpg

The roads from Boscastle to Tintagel, then down to Padstow and onward to the Farmhouse we were staying in was
"Scoob Heaven" - highly enjoyable, chuckable roads with no cameras..... Lovely!!

Overall, I took 750+ photos and of the ones I have kept, they total some 954Meg for those who understand these things.....

Also for the "Techies" - All photo's taken on a Canon 350D with either the standard 18-55mm lens with a UV Filter, or a 55-200 lens with a Polariser Filter.
NO macro lenses were used for any flower shots (hence why I was pleased with these ones)..

Also FYI - The trip was 715 miles door to door and I used 27.41 galls which resulted in 26.08 mpg overall.
Pre-armed myself with the locations of the Shell V-Power garages, so fuel was not the problem I thought it would be...
although it was 110.9p at the one just outside Bodmin!

There - so that's why I wasn't at Brighton....... maybe next year.... :)

Well done, I'm proud of you :thumb:

Looks like you had a great time and fantastic weather.

Looie 26 May 2009 10:48 PM

The weather was really great - so unusual for a Bank Holiday weekend!

Got a bit burnt on the arms and neck, as you always seem to do, but nothing serious....

The Eden Project was on my "must do one day" list for a long time, so really glad I've done it now and with the bonus of having good weather to do that (long) trip - it would be a bit naff if it was raining....

Boscastle was a complete surprise - not what I was expecting at all, lovely place.....

Tintagel a fair bit more touristy and TBH I was glad to get back to the car - "been there, done it" - is probably the "tactfull" comment on there.

Great pictures Looie reminded me of my visit when it was a lot smaller with less domes.

On our trip to the West country we stayed at Hartland Point, called in to Clovelly & then headed down the North coast to Newquay. Senen Cove was next then on to St.Micheals Mount & then to the Eden Project. Stopped in Ivybridge to see my Grandma's old house & visit some childhood haunts before heading home. Brought back a lot of happy memories of being a kid on summer hols.

Please excuse poor quality of pictures this was 2002 & 3 megapixels (Kodak DX3500) was a lot then. :lol1:

Nice write up Looie.

Was wondering where you had been lurking recently :)

Good to see you had a great time.

ps: with those MPG figures, you're not driving your car anywhere near hard enough !!! ;)

When I were a lad they were still using the donkeys & you could eat a whole loaf of Hovis by the time you got to the top. :lol1:

Thankfully they have rested the poor old donkeys & put them out to pasture near the top so you can still see them.

The Red Lion at the bottom on the quay is worth a visit, crap beer but very atmospheric. :thumb:
