I know this has been covered before but with no search facility I'm asking again. I have a MY99 standard turbo, owned from new with 52k on the clock. I've decided to keep it for the next two years and fancy doing some bits and pieces to it but there's choices to be made:-
Go for the PPP at a cost of £1950 and extend the warranty for 2 years at a cost of £578 or forego the extension of the warranty and go for something else. All I'm after is more midrange punch but is spending £2k on the PPP worth it?

Cheers
Neil

Hi Neil,

sorry for not answering your question!

Are there any rules around extended warranty? I have a 2 yr old MY00, and was considering extending the warranty, but it will have done 60k miles at the end of 3 years, and I thought I read elsewhere that 60k miles was the limit?

cheers,

greg

Why is PPP costing 2k, last I heard it was about £1600. Well you would get more mid range punch and also lower down from 2.5k revs). I'd put the £568 in the bank just in case (dont know the details but as car get older the less and less is covered by warranty) and the 60,000 service is approaching and expensive. Only saying what personally I would do. Jen.

Jen, MY01/02 PPP is £1600, pre MY01 costs more

ozzy 04 March 2002 02:34 PM

No it doesn't, AF Noble want just a tad over £1600 for PPP on a MY99/00. No way on God's earth, should you pay £2K for a PPP regardless of MY.

As for the warranty, the std extended one (1yr manufacturer, 2yr extended) has a limit of 3yrs or 60,000miles (whichever arrives first).

AFAIK, the extended warranty (after 3yrs) also extends these restrictions - to what, I don't know, but a call to IM would answer that.

Extended Warranty

Up to 60000 miles 12 months 24 months
£256 £388
Unlimited £385 £578

Prices include VAT

Mine runs out on the 10/3

I think I'll extend it

I had an extended warrantee on my MY95 - according to my dealer (Listers of Worcester), the extended warrantee covered EVERYTHING the normal warrantee did, and could be extended every year. Period.
It just cost a bit more.

Hope this helps.

I had (until last Friday) a MY99 which I was considering the same thing for (PPP+warranty extension). The garage told me that I could only extend the warranty at the time of having a service, though to be fair they're so regular anyway that shouldn't be a problem;)

However, the garage still said that the car has to go back to Prodrive to have PPP fitted (unlike MY01+) which meant that it was more expensive. And the warranty isn't IM-backed but simply mechanical insurance, so doesn't cover replacement of clutch etc. In the circumstances, I thought that I might as well not bother with the warranty, and on that basis, choose a cheaper upgrade than PPP.

And then I was offered a pretty good trade-in deal, my finance was about to expire anyway, and I realised my wife was driving the car far more than me (yet I was still paying for 20mpg and expensive servicing). So I swopped it for a Civic Type-R :) - really very nice indeed.

Depends who you talk to for the PPP. Some dealers will do it for £1675 and you take the car to Prodrive yourself for half a day. Other dealers say that they must have the car for the three days and want £1980 for the privilege.

Shop around - even if it's not a local dealer they can probably sort you a deal over the phone/fax/email etc.

ozzy, prices that I have seen quoted on this board for a Pre MY01 PPP were greater than that of a MY01 PPP that's all I was saying.

and anyway £1600 + a tad equals more than £1600:p
