c51reg 'classic' WRX's-reliable to buy/any HG probs?

Ok, Im a Fozzy owner and on our seperate forum I have seen head gasket problems (admittedly not a great deal) on the 2.0 engines circa pre-2003. I'm tempted to buy a WRX sportswagon from circa 2001 upto 110kmiles. As long as the car has annual services, all belts changed etc is this vintage classic WRX potentially 'bombproof' if it hasnt been abused or mod'd? Does it also suffer potential HG problems?

Many thanks for your help guys :)

Head gaskets are not a weak point on the Impreza. As with any car, however, check the dipstick for signs of mayonnaise which is one of the tell tale signs

Ta :) anything Impreza-specific to look out for?

Pre-2003 cars are bug eyes not what we call classics. Pre and up to 2000 are Classics, 2000 - 2003 Bugeyes (first of the newage), 2003 became the Blobeye. No real problems specifically with WRX's just the usual performance car thrashing / potential bad mods / neglected servicing problems found with most cars of that age. Good luck with your search - get a good one and you'll love it :thumb:
