Astra VXR's you have to give em credit

yes the astra VXR uuuuurrrmmmm ;)

just had a little 10 second run in with one, no more than 200 yards as i would have had to follow him into a dodgy overtake so i backed off. They are quick cars once on the move :) i must admit i was caught out a bit 'flat footed' in 4th gear and off boost BUT thats no excuse :lol1: he did'nt pull away BUT i failed to gain on him much either.

just to say that vauxhall have made a resonable car :D and they dont look too bad either :)

TonyBurns 25 May 2009 04:18 PM

They are nice cars :D (astra cdti owner ;)) though the 888 CDTI cars will scare you in gear

Tony:)

stevie1982 25 May 2009 04:20 PM

looked at getting one when they first came out and took one out from main dealer with all the extras and other than the wheels lighting up as it was a damp day they are very noce to drive but coul dnot justify 20k for it but now i am sure they could be had for next to nothing prob under 10k so not a bad option

Steve001 25 May 2009 04:29 PM

my newphew has one and i asked him how it was (he came from an FTO) he said it was ok but he did'nt seem overly impressed. i like vauxhalls, god knows i have owned a few :) and still do (see avitar)

i will watch the vauxhall sites for the next few hours for the 'I beat a scooby thread' ;)

I had a short play with one a while back, I was behind him at the lights so just a quick sprint, they are fast but he certainly was nowhere near pulling away.

Believe it or not it was a driving school car too. :)

cdm1 25 May 2009 05:26 PM

had a few run in's now with the VXR but not had on go past me yet then again i am running 347bhp 332lbft :norty:

Steve001 25 May 2009 05:36 PM

did'nt go past me either :p i was behind him :)

the lesson here is if your off boost and in the wrong gear your fooked :lol1:

BTW i have a hawk specD PPP

phil84 25 May 2009 05:40 PM

Have heard these are quick motors :wonder:

although around and off roundabouts is another story:norty:

they look nice but dont think they are up to much

brocksta 25 May 2009 08:46 PM

great cars vxr in straight line.. they (are)a match for a standard wrx on a straight road ...not sure how tuneable they are but in a drag you r not going say good bye in a standard wrx ...hence pretty good cars.

Mifo 25 May 2009 08:51 PM

got to admit I did get caught off guard by one of the nurburgring editions.

Left me for dead as we joined a duel carriage way.By the time I put my foot down it was gone!!!

Must have had alot of money spent on it.

s70rjw 25 May 2009 09:10 PM

659 posts in less than 5 days on one topic!! Don't they go out and drive their VXRs?

AlanPPP 25 May 2009 09:57 PM

Had a play with one a while ago rolling from 30 mph to around 100+ and at first he caught me out due to him boosting sooner..by the time i was changing into 4th though he was just a spec in my mirror.Would i have one? Oh yes :) In Arden blue with the 19's please.Maybe a Focus ST running dreamscience would tempt me more though...not sure.

BTW i had a 96 WRX running 320 brake.

evil_scoobs 25 May 2009 10:11 PM

Ive got the CDTI and a scooby and the CDTIs are pretty good.
We have done a few 1/4 mile runs and the diesel was pretty much as fast as the VXR which shocked everyone

Boyakasha 25 May 2009 10:22 PM

There are some real dreamers on that VXR site saying that Evos hold them up at the corners under braking. If your telling me that a VXR will out brake me and corner better than my MY07 STi then I'll eat my hat.

The VXR might be good in a straight line but they have obviously never watched 5th Gear where the Focus ST was quicker round the track.

jayallen 25 May 2009 11:02 PM

It wont be long before they spot this thread, pop over and spout on about how their glorified Viva's also rinse Scoobs on trackdays..:cuckoo:

I hope not :(

the reason for this thread was to say how good the VXR is.

soon enough (if the rumours are correct) we will find out how good a scooby can be on track. i have heard that subaru are going into track racing.

bob r 25 May 2009 11:49 PM

I've not had an encounter with a VXR but with the 2 wheel drive and 2 litre turbo charged engine I reckon it would see off most Imprezas under 300 brake.

G-Man1982 25 May 2009 11:56 PM

i got spanked by a corsa b!!

running a 2.1 turbo lump!

@rse.

Steve001 25 May 2009 11:59 PM

from a standing start NO only just though the VXR is 6.2 to 60 the WRX is 5.7 i think

and not forgetting.................................

the wet twisties ;)

ha ha

"You only have to look at R26.R times compared to more powerful 4wd cars http://www.fastestlaps.com/index.php...&filter4=false

On the road no one would argue it - although watching a MK1 Golf Gti and a Saxo bullying a GTR (New one) round a bend on a track day was quite funny at the weekend"

 dont see that myself

if it took you 10 seconds to get 200yds then you need to go outside and make yourself sick buddy

Coc-ker 26 May 2009 11:28 AM

Just read the VXR thread.

What a load of sh*te.

Well mine's running 290ish and a VXR didn't see me off; that was on a bone dry road in a straight line too. :lol1:

Tidgy 26 May 2009 12:47 PM

rafpmsl, thats funny as

i have mates who drive vxr's (used to drive an astra back in the day), took a mate on in his 330bhp vxr my scoob running 340, straights, mullered him, corners, i wasn't even trying and he couldn't keep up (bit damp and greesy that day, although same results have happened on dry days, but hes been a bit closer).

standard vxr vs standard uk turbo once rolling in a straight line on a dry day then vxr will kick the ass out of the uk turbo, sti is a different ball game however. once you reach 280+ against a standard vxr then is more or less level in a straight line. 300+ then scoob will pull away. astras tuned above 330 struggle to get the power down in 1st, 2nd and 3rd and once rolling then scoob tends to pull away anyway.

corners, scoob will be faster, wet or dry.

this all assumes the driver is capable in both cars and neither gets the drop on each other.

p.s. if the vxr's were mullering scoobs and evo's, y arn't they in time attack? (its not just jap theres a lotus running in it as well as others).

anyone dare post the timmeattack link on there? lol

yeh a bit of a slip there :D should have said i was behind hime for about 10 seconds then he put his foot down i reponded (as you do;)) he overtook the car in front but i held back as i saw a car coming the other way it was all over in approx 200 yards or so (only had time for 1 gear change from 35mph in 5th to 3rd by the time the revs got anywhere near 5,500 it was all over really)

next time...next time (on a private road of course;))
