Shock Horror My Beloved Car Failed MOT

Hey
Had my MY99 STI in for MOT and was all confident she would pass. Tread on tyres are fine an all.

Just been told car has failed on all four tyres, as they have splits on the inner wall.

Because they are under pressure, I turned round and said they can't be under pressure as I check them weekly and they are always spot on at 32 psi.

I know they are budget tyres that came with the alloys which are 17" Invoits. What else could of caused this to happen.

Also just happened at the best time possible as Ive just spent 400 quid on me archery stuff oops. What would you recommend me to replace with decent tyres with decent price.

I dont thrash the car and I dont take to track days. Its just a everyday car.

I will take some pics tomorrow as they are going to show me on ramps, so will try an post them on here.

Falken 452s:

FALKEN TYRES / CAR / FALKEN FK452 FALKEN FK 452 - 215/40R17 87W XL TL :: £59.10 :: Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres :: R17" - 215/40/17, 215/40 R 17 ::

Bob Rawle recommended them to me on my remap last Sunday. He uses them on his 500bhp daily driver so they must be pretty good!!

Camskill deliver for free also - so £236.40 dleivered for 4 is pretty damn good.

have you had a look your self to see if the splits are there?

i agee some mot stations rip you off and find things others dont

another vote for the falken fk452s - got them on mine and rate them way better than the pirelli pzeros i had before (and about half the price too ;))

there is a limit on the tyres for splits, the split has to be over 25mm long and go back to the weave (i.e. you can see the canvas) the split can still be over 25mm long but if the weave is not seen then you should only get an advisory (as i did this year) I would however still change them if they are split...

Another vote for Falken 452's and Camskills here as well

The Falkens were good on my classic Scooby, and I think I got them off Camskill too!

Had Pirellis on cars in the past and really not good, especially... in wet! P6's, P6000, P7's, although not tried Pzero nero .. but thrice bitten ..

Goodyear GSD3's and some Bridgestones are good but more expensive.

Yer Ive been into see them today and have brought another set Marshal Ones I'm going for about 300 alltogether.

He couldn't get car on ramp to show me tyres but will show me in morning. I told them that they where budget ones when I brought a wheel and tyre package. And he had noticed that the tyres are 6 years old. Ive only had them on a year.

So they hav said its probably because they have been stored for so long that they have deterioated.

But what I think I will do is when ive finished paying off these tyres i will go and save up and buy some more as spares or sumthing?
