Help Snapped Locking Wheel Nut!!
Guys, i have been changing my standard susp to Tein coil overs. Got the front two changed then snapped a rear locking wheel nut while removing the wheel!! What the hell am i going to do??
Does anyone know how to remove a snapped wheel nut?? To make things worse i snapped the socket while attempting to remove the snapped nut so now i cant remove any of the other wheels... |
I did this with a McGard locking nut and the socket.
I took it to my mechanic and after he faffed around with it for about an hour he eventually had to drill the stud out. The stud was then just replaced. I also sent off to McGard for another socket who sent me a new socket but it was the wrong shape! So I made a clay mould and took pics which I then sent to them. It did not work though as too much of the nut on the hub had snapped off to get any decent purchase on it! Worrying time for me though as my tyres were badly needing changing. HTH. |
Friendly mechanic, or local tyre place, if the car is driveable.
If not, find a TIGHT socket that just deosn't fit and hammer it over the nut. Then use a long bar to turn the socket. You may nacker the socket, but they can be bought for a couple of quid, singly, from car spares places. I got ONE of mine off with mole grips, but you risk damaging the wheel:( |
might try the mole grip, if not it will have to be my local garage. Thanks for your help

You can also get wheel nut remover sockets which are reversed threaded sockets but you need an impact wrench to use them properly.
Most tyre places should have these if you can drive the car. Also torque your nuts to 65ftlb and use some copper slip;) |
